Assist in day-to-day supervised activities related to the development of a construction project to build foundational knowledge in construction management, business and project financial management, project safety protocols, trade partner relationships, quality control, and project coordination and lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Depending on the business need and location, Intern may be assigned to work an active field construction project in one of our many specialties, a department located in a main office working in Preconstruction/Estimating, Business Development, or one of our divisions such as Special Projects or Self Perform Operations.
Support project team with meeting coordination, material tracking, file management, document control, and progress reporting.
Take direction from supervisor, provide progress reports, and be receptive and apply constructive feedback.
Relate and apply knowledge acquired in the academic setting to the company/project setting.
Gain knowledge of project safety codes and regulations.
Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior.
Maintain professional relationships with employees, customers, clients, and subcontractors.
Participate in training, meetings, and orientation.
Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Based on the internship assignment, the following activities may be performed:
Assist in project start-up activities and provide support to Project Engineer, Project Superintendent, and/or Project Manager.
Assist in collection and review of information and approvals for processing shop drawings, submittals, and Requests for Information (RFIs).
Assist in preparation and distribution of information as directed for contract requirements to appropriate parties.
Assist in preparation of estimates for changes in work from subcontractors.
Attend project site visits to observe and document construction field activities.
Assist in preparation of and conduct correspondence and communication as directed to Architects, Engineers, vendors, and subcontractors in connection with performing their assigned trades.
Assist in communication to trades and sub-contractors to understand and track job schedules.
Assist in monitoring contractor compliance with Turner’s safety program as directed by Project Superintendent.
Assist in preparation of quantity take-offs and studies for project items using either traditional or computer-aided programs, learning and discussing details necessary to complete project.
Request and distribute subcontractor proposals relative to their scope of work to assemble proposals for delivery system.
Assist in project close out preparations.
Qualifications:
Enrolled and actively pursuing a college or university accredited degree program; recommended majors include and not limited to Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management, and at minimum 1 year of completed educational studies, and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
Desire to work in construction management and to learn about construction industry
Flexible to work standard business hours and overtime as determined by internship assignment
Demonstrate interpersonal skills including student leadership, volunteerism, or other community involvement
Professional and clear verbal and written communication skills
Assume personal and professional accountability for own actions and activities
Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to tackle new projects and ideas, flexible, and adaptable
Able to work independently, with some oversight, and in a team environment
Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
Basic computer and data entry skills and familiar with Microsoft suite of applications
General familiarity with general contract, subcontract documents, drawings, and specifications, desired
Some travel may be required, access to reliable transportation required

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
