Job Description

Primary Function of Position

As a global upstream product manager on the da Vinci® Multiport team, you will become a key development and design stage stakeholder for multiple projects in cardiac surgery. This is a direct contributor role and will report to a Sr. Group Product Manager.

You will work with cross-functional partners to identify needs; define and guide products through the development process; become a global portfolio professional helping to guide future portfolio recommendations; and work with the commercial downstream teams for product launches. Responsibilities include product business & strategic modeling, product user needs & requirements management, market research, customer interaction, forecasting, pricing, comparative insights, and new product proposals.

Essential Job Duties

  • Develop a deep understanding of the surgical treatments for applicable indications, including monitoring and consuming clinical literature, attending medical society meetings, engaging with physician key opinion leaders (KOLs), and observing live robotic cases. Will require both domestic and international travel.
  • Capture, refine, and validate user needs with feedback from customers, the commercial team, and clinical development engineering. Establish design requirements, prioritize design efforts, navigate tradeoffs, and document and communicate design outcomes.
  • Assist in managing the Multiport product roadmap and lifecycle in alignment with the multiport portfolio priorities. Develop business justification for recommendations and gain alignment across key stakeholders on project prioritization.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative market research methods and direct customer interviews and observations to develop insights that inform product development and the product roadmap.
  • Collaboratively develop global product commercialization plans with global portfolio marketing, regional marketing, and commercial teams.
  • Work with the product engineering and business development teams to evaluate new technologies and prioritize the new business development pipeline.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Self-directed with awareness to proactively seek advice and develop professional skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to ensure product success and ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority. This includes the ability to manage in bridging communication between engineering, design, marketing, sales, and customers.
  • Presentation skills to internal and external audiences including the VP level. Proven PowerPoint or equivalent modality skillset.
  • Quantitative mindset, proven ability to investigate open-ended problems, break into first principles insights, and work cross-functionally to implement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work creatively amidst contending priorities and smoothly manage multiple different deadlines and tasks.

Required Education and Training

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 5 years in a medical device role and 8 or more years cumulative professional experience in product management, marketing, engineering, business development, or equivalent role

Preferred Skills and Experience (As applicable - Specific skills, knowledge, and experience that are not required to perform the job, but are desirable to have)

  • MBA or equivalent experience in role
  • Experience in cardiac surgery
  • 3 years upstream Product Management or equivalent experience in medical device company
