Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
This position will provide Tier-1 IT User Support for the USM Office, located in Adelphi, MD. The position is a part-time 6-month contractual appointment for no more than 25 hours per week with the potential for renewal. Although the USM Office is currently in a “hybrid” working model of both on-site work and telework, this position requires on-site presence in the Adelphi office.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides in-person and remote assistance to end-users for various hardware and software issues.
  • Installs and updates software and hardware (e.g. RAM, SSD) on desktops and laptops.
  • Assists full-time IT staff with the ongoing IT equipment inventory project.
  • Sets up new computers for deployment.
  • Documents user problems and resolutions in the help-desk ticketing system.
  • Because USM IT Operations supports all IT needs for the USM Office, there may also be other support-related opportunities (server maintenance, network configuration, etc.) for a candidate to enhance/employ their IT skill set.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required Education Level/Certifications:
High School Diploma or GED.

Required Experience:
1 year of experience supporting Windows and Mac OSX systems.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • A good understanding of general computer support (both hardware and software) for both Windows and Mac OSX.
  • Friendly and helpful demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff members.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications, Adobe Acrobat, and Zoom.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and research solutions to unfamiliar problems.
  • Ability to work with or without direct supervision.
