Job details

Technical Writer

  • Provide support to Project Manager, Contracting, or junior level Engineering personnel
  • Determine the needs of end users of technical documentation
  • Study product samples and talk with product designers and developers
  • Work with technical staff to make products easier to use and thus need fewer instructions
  • Organize and write supporting documents for products
  • Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts that increase users’ understanding
  • Create operating instructions, how-to manuals, assembly instructions, and “frequently asked questions” pages
  • Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or online videos
  • Standardize content across platforms and media
  • Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers
  • Revise documents as new issues arise. Store current projects in a logical file structure and maintain backup files
  • Maintain positive, open, and productive relationships with both co-workers and customers
  • Prioritize work and make good time management decisions
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Training (both required and desired): 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline required  

Experience:

  • 0+ years of professional experience required
  • 2+ years of professional experience in the task area preferred

Security:

  • Must be a US citizen
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance required

Physical Requirements

  • Able to occasionally reach with hands and arms
  • Prolonged periods of computer screen use, while sitting or standing at a desk
  • Adhere to safety protocols when in work areas requiring use of PPE (e.g. eyewear, gloves, masks, hearing protection, steel toed shoes, etc.)
  • Able to safely lift and carry up to 20 pounds at a time
