The Hennepin County Library's (HCL) Technical Services work unit is seeking to fill a Senior Librarian position. This Senior Librarian is responsible for Cataloging and Bibliographic Control. This position will report to the Manager of Collection and Technical Services.The Hennepin County Library collection is a large collection built to reflect the interests of the general public and is not overly academic. This collection has been built since 1885, but the majority of materials found in most of our buildings are recent (within the past 25 years) purchases. Exceptions can be found at Minneapolis Central and in local history collections. HCL is a federal depository library using Marcive GPO record service.Current Hennepin County employees who refer a candidate hired into an open competitive position may be eligible for a $500 referral bonus. For more information visit employee referral program.Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at Ridgedale Library, 12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka, MN and remotely as job duties require. Work hours are generally Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. with some flexibility. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive $500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment. About this position: This is a full-time, benefit earning position.This position is internally classified as a Librarian, Senior.Click here to view the job classification specification. In this position you will: Supervise eight Metadata Librarians, including approval of timesheets, writing of annual Employee Performance Reviews, tracking, and approving time off requests, reviewing individual hybrid schedules, and providing direction and training. Compile and monitor production statistics both for reports and to monitor individual cataloger productivity and training needs. Monitor the internal Catalog and Label Correction Request forms to be aware of trends and training needs.Foster independent work in an adaptable, innovative, and collaborative work unit. Create and be committed to a respectful workplace and work-life balance. Utilize good communication skills, including communicating the value and scope of what catalogers do to people in the library outside of CTS. Lead cooperative work between Library Services staff and Cataloging staff. Develop and maintain system level partnerships to facilitate continuous improvement in delivery of Cataloging services, and infuse Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the catalog. Regularly catalog materials or revise older catalog records to maintain currency. Lead or support systemwide or cross divisional projects.Participate in or lead county and library teams and initiatives.Communicate and implement policies, strategies and procedures set by the County and HCL.Need to have: An ALA-accredited master's degree or higher and three years or more of professional library experience.Nice to have: An understanding of and commitment to diversity and inclusion work and how it relates to community engagement.Experience: As a supervisor or lead. Delivering inclusive and responsive customer service to diverse communities.With serials cataloging. With Authority Control and/or Name Authority Cooperative (NACO). Performing statistical analysis. Coordinating, leading, and facilitating multiple projects across different departments and divisions while meeting deadlines and stakeholder expectations. Identifying outcomes and familiarity with assessment and evaluation. Facilitating and navigating discussions with a wide variety of staff and viewpoints.Ability to communicate clearly in-person and in writing, particularly about library priorities, services, and standards.Knowledge of MS Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).Creative problem solving and process improvement skills.About the department: Hennepin County Library’s mission is to inspire, facilitate, and celebrate lifelong learning.
