Job Description
Under general guidance, utilizes a specialized knowledge of subjects, languages, computer applications, or disciplines that apply to library processes and/or services or provides specialized knowledge of library functions. Utilizes a variety of systems and resources to provide access to library collections, and performs the more complex technical functions requiring proficiency with technical protocols, digital technology, and data manipulation skills. Exercises initiative and independent judgment when providing service or interpreting, analyzing and applying policies and procedures, including those related to fiscal decisions. Routinely analyzes and resolves complex problems that may impact other Library departments or the organization as a whole, and /or external parties and organizations.

MAJOR PURPOSE:
As a valued member of the Libraries Learning & Academic Engagement (LAE) Department, this individual will be responsible for providing general information, academic reference, and basic technology assistance within a collaborative team environment that serves a diverse and inclusive campus community. The LAE department is committed to providing exceptional service and assists over 15,000 patrons annually with a range of requests related to academic and technological resources. LAE’s highly skilled staff are known for delivering superior quality service by effectively connecting patrons with resources and technology.

Qualifications
Associate’s degree and at least 4 years of library or related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with MS Office, Access, Internet, Email.

  • Ability to provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff as well as local and global research communities ·

  • Ability to exercise discernment and independent judgment when handling customer service concerns ·
  • Proven ability to problem-solve while managing and prioritizing tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment ·
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively ·
  • Curiosity and motivation for continuous learning and professional development ·
  • Ability to create and lead projects ·
  • Experience with technology services using Windows and Mac devices, high-speed printers, scanners, and/or plotter printers ·
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe software systems

Responsibilities
  • Staff three service points (Information Desk, Technology Desk, Chat Service)
  • Troubleshoot basic printing and technology issues
  • Share general research and academic reference recommendations
  • Demonstrate strong commitment to providing high quality customer service in a collaborative team environment to a diverse and inclusive campus and researcher community
  • Be a proactive member of our customer service team
  • Foster a welcoming and approachable environment
  • Provide guidance and instruction to patrons on how to effectively utilize library resources
  • Apply creative thinking skills to understanding, analyzing, and solving complex problems
  • Assist patrons with general library or campus information needs
  • Provide appropriate referrals to other departments and staff
  • Promptly respond to all departmental communications
  • Participate in department training activities
  • Provide occasional training, coaching and feedback to student employees
  • Provide support to other Library Technicians and student employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
  • Daily repetitive motions, as well as prolonged periods of sitting, standing, stooping, and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to move tables and chairs, as well as to push a cart filled with library materials weighing up to 80 pounds


Tools/Equipment
  • Use PCs running Windows 10 operating systems, MS Office Suite 365, web browser, other Windows applications, and library software systems
  • Assist with the use of high-speed printers, scanners, and plotters
