Transportation Planner

Lochmueller Group is looking for a talented Transportation Planner to join our growing Traffic Engineering & Planning Department. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing firm with a growing Traffic Engineering and Planning practice.


This position will be involved in a variety of transportation planning projects and activities that may include comprehensive plans, transportation plans, corridor studies, transit studies, pedestrian & bicycle studies, geographic information systems, travel demand models, traffic calming studies, traffic forecasting, economic analyses, NEPA environmental studies, parking studies, and other planning-oriented projects.


Lochmueller Group is involved in a variety of projects, including highways and bridges for various local public agencies and state DOT’s, miscellaneous structural design to support our other business units, and design-build pursuits. Our Traffic Engineering & Planning team works with both public and private sector clients to solve their most complex transportation challenges.

In this position, the candidate will:
  • Support the project manager and team with technical activities for community and transportation planning projects.
  • Develop reports, exhibits, documentation, and materials to document project or study results.
  • Collect, assimilate, and analyze project and study data, documentation, and information.
  • Develop presentations summarizing project results.
  • Create visuals for presentations and reports using graphics tools.
  • Use geographic information systems to collect, display, and evaluate information.
  • Create travel demand model inputs including transportation network layers and traffic analysis zone layers.
  • Use travel demand models to forecast transportation volumes.
  • Regularly communicate with the project manager and team to coordinate completion of activities.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project meetings with stakeholders, clients, and the public as needed.
  • This position may perform other duties associated with the role. 


Minimum qualifications for this role:
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Relevant internship experience in transportation planning; 2+ years of relevant transportation planning experience is helpful. 
  • AICP Candidate designation is a plus.
  • Understanding of transportation, land use, urban design, and/or economic development planning principles and standards.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and ESRI Geographic Information Systems (GIS) products.
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver’s license.
