Manager, Communications & Public Affairs

We are looking for top talent at the Manager level for our growing Communications & Public Affairs Practice. Successful candidates have experience in implementing strategic communications and public affairs programs and tactics. Managers are expected to juggle multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously, including managing projects for clients, drafting memos, pitching stories to reporters, building coalitions, working on digital, social, and advocacy campaigns, and helping to develop new business proposals. 


Responsibilities


  • Develop client facing materials, including memos, presentations, media materials, and social media content 
  • Manage multiple workstreams for projects, as well as those of more junior team members, by setting priorities and delegating to adhere to timelines and deadlines 
  • Establish strong client relationships through regular email correspondence, calls, and in-person meetings 
  • Demonstrate leadership and strong political and media judgement through critical thinking and idea generation
  • Work directly with reporters to place and inform stories, and serve as on-the-record spokesperson for some clients 
  • Contribute to new-business proposal and presentation development 
  • Actively participate and contribute to internal planning meetings and brainstorming sessions 
  • Take the lead on specific workstreams and projects, including interfacing with clients, account status calls, and timelines
  • Contribute to organic growth opportunities with clients that result in new projects and revenue 


Qualifications


  • 3 – 5 years of experience in strategic communications or public affairs in corporate, government, politics, non-profits, or agency settings, political campaigns, or a related industry 
  • Demonstrated success implementing strategic communications and public affairs programs and tactics 
  • Experience using digital communications and social media platforms for clients 
  • Strong organization, prioritization, and project management and multi-tasking skills 
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, in a fast-paced environment and maintain quality 
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with strong presentation skills 
  • Team player with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, the press and other stakeholders 
  • Takes initiative, speaks up, is resourceful, and has a strong desire to work hard 
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual abilities are highly valued 
  • Comfortable with technology and learning new programs/systems
  • Proactive and ability to work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience


The base salary for this position is between $ 75,000 to $ 90,000 commensurate with experience, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus. GSG provides a comprehensive benefits package including excellent coverage for medical, vision, and dental insurance; paid parental leave; generous time off and holidays; 401k with employer match; and additional benefits.
