Mid-Level / Senior Backend QA Engineer

Working Location

We are a mixture of remote and hybrid working. Our primary location and only hybrid office is in London and we have remote teams across locations globally which overlap well with the GMT time zone.

What we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced Backend QA Engineer to join our team at Drest Ltd.. Reporting to the Lead QA, you will participate in the planning and execution of functional and integration tests that build confidence and reduce risk while maintaining and increasing the quality of our releases. As part of an embedded QA team you will support your teammates whether they’re product owners, engineers or other stakeholders to drive and support the quality of our products..

You will be working in an Agile manner testing user stories and tasks as well as communicating with your team to ensure that all backend systems are working as expected. Important to note that this role will be a mixture of manual and automated testing.

Diligent, driven and self-disciplined you have solid communication skills and will put yourself in the shoes of our users to flag issues in testing before those are experienced by our players on the live product.

You have confidence in your skills in Quality Assurance testing/engineering but are eager to learn more.

What you will do..

• Define test plans, carry out testing of user-stories, report and shepherd any bugs discovered.
• Record, classify and report the severity of any issues to ensure they are fixed before release.
• Escalate blockers or critical issues as appropriate to the Technical Delivery Manager.
• Run, maintain and enhance our automation framework.
• Team up with engineers to ensure test coverage is met.
• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with your QA peers to continuously improve the testing processes and code.
• Work in an Agile environment, being involved in stand-ups, planning, refinement, retros, etc.
• Share your knowledge and learn from your peers to continuously support the team’s growth.

What you will bring..

• Experience as a Backend QA engineer at a Mid to Senior level of experience (minimum of 3 years).
• Experience testing REST APIs using Postman or similar tools.
• Experience testing GraphQL queries/mutations.
• Keen attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of QA processes and testing terminology.
• Extensive understanding of source control management, build processes, test environments and frequent code release deployment QA support activities.
• Working experience with industry-standard bug reporting software such as JIRA.
• Ability to perform risk and root cause analysis.
• Strong team player with good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Good understanding of Agile principles and methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
• Are passionate about testing, and continuously looking to improve your knowledge and skills.

What else you could bring but is not essential..

• Ability to diagnose and identify issues in data, code and scripting information.
• Experience in automated API testing (preferably Java).
• Experience in application load testing.
• Experience testing mobile games / apps (iOS & Android)
• QA experience of 3rd parties SDKs (e.g. Facebook, Firebase, etc.).
• Knowledge of Unity and C#.
• Knowledge of C/C++ and other relevant game-programming languages.
• A passion for games, including mobile.
