QSR Staff Accountant

Mize CPAs Inc. was recently named a Top 200 Workplace for 2024 by USA Today! We are a leading regional accounting and IT firm with offices in Topeka and Overland Park, Kansas. Our firm works with clients in a number of industries and has a rapidly growing restaurant and hospitality division that serves clients nationwide.

We are looking for an in-office only Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Accounting Services Staff Accountant in our Topeka office. Full-time availability is required, around 2250 hours per year. After initial training of 9 - 12 months, a hybrid-remote work schedule can be discussed.

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have experience compilating monthly financial statements, related schedules, and supplementary information for various clients as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Compilation of monthly financial statements, which include balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and various supplementary schedules as required
  • Reconcile bank statements, prepare adjusting journal entries and post to the general ledger
  • Maintain client's depreciation schedules, recording changes in property and equipment and calculating depreciation and amortization
  • Research general ledger account issues, to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, intercompany transfers, miscellaneous, etc
  • Maintain records and general ledger detail using prescribe forms and methods given by the QSR Shareholder and or Manager
  • Consult with the client or the client's bookkeeper regarding matters of general ledger account coding classification
  • Gathering information for financial and income tax projections including quarterly and year-end tax packets
  • Monitor client adherence to compliance related deadlines such as sales tax, payroll tax, income tax payments, personal property filings, and real estate taxes
  • Meet all deadlines for monthly compilations, government reporting and tax services
  • Occasional same day travel for meetings and seminars
  • Increased workload required during certain times of the year
  • Ability to work the hours necessary to meet deadlines for work assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • In-office work during training, due to the interaction necessary with the trainer; amount of time required will vary based on the individual's experience and abilities
  • Individuals at this level normally have a Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting or other related business field or equivalent accounting experience
  • Zero - two years' experience with bank reconciliation and/or monthly financial statements
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office Suite and accounting or tax software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in bank processing or banking systems
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and team management skills
