Job Description

The Red Gate Group is seeking a Controller to lead and oversee the accounting department while ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. As the Controller, you will play a critical role in managing the month-end close process, reconciling accounts, and maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will supervise a team, including an Accounting Manager and a Project Accountant, to ensure the integrity of financial operations and support the organization’s short- and long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Directly manage and mentor two key team members—the Accounting Manager and Project Accountant—ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering professional development.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Lead the month-end and quarterly closing processes, including account reconciliation and detailed analysis, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Internal Controls: Develop, maintain, and improve internal control systems to safeguard financial assets and ensure compliance with GAAP.
  • Compliance & Audit: Manage financial operations in accordance with government contract accounting standards, including DCAA compliance and audit preparation.
  • Payroll Management: Oversee semi-monthly payroll processes, including accruals, deferrals, and GL posting, while interfacing with external payroll services.
  • Deltek Costpoint Expertise: Utilize Deltek Costpoint to manage day-to-day financial operations, ensuring efficient and accurate system usage.
  • Policy Implementation: Assist in the development and execution of fiscal policies and procedures to align with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Confidentiality & Security: Safeguard customer confidence and operational integrity by maintaining confidentiality and following secure financial practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance OR 10 years of experience in an accounting role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of full-cycle accounting processes, including monthly close, adjustments, and reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Deltek Costpoint software.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and its application to financial operations.
  • Government contractor accounting experience, including job cost accounting and familiarity with DCAA compliance and audits.
  • Experience managing or mentoring team members in a financial or accounting setting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in government contract accounting.
  • Familiarity with employee benefit arrangements and related fiscal policies.
