Model Risk Analyst & Generalist Risk Analyst

Who You'll Work With

The individual will play a key role in support of AllianceBernstein’s Model Risk Management (MRM) program, which governs quantitative and qualitative models across their model lifecycle. The core objectives of this role are to collaborate with model developers and owners across the enterprise to:

Define and inventory models in scope of the MRM program.
Ensure in-scope models and their controls are appropriate for use, reliably implemented, and support key business decisions and results.
Standardize and centralize model risk management practices across the organization.

This position has significant people, project, and framework responsibilities. It is a high-visibility position with frequent and in-depth interactions with multiple internal and external stakeholders such as modeling groups, technology, portfolio management, compliance, internal audit, business unit leadership, and clients. The individual is expected to quickly achieve a comprehensive understanding of AllianceBernstein’s modeling environment and risk management objectives and work with the Head of Model Risk to further develop and implement AllianceBernstein’s Model Risk Management practices. This position reports to the Head of Model Risk.

The Investment Risk function provides independent oversight of AllianceBernstein’s funds and investment services using proprietary and vendor risk tools to analyze portfolio risk (ex: beta, tracking error, concentration, VaR, stress tests, risk decomposition) and performance (ex: P&L attribution, factor contribution, security selection).

What You'll Do

Strategy & Leadership

Oversee the continuous enhancement of model risk management framework, and normative documentation including policies and procedures
Support audits and examinations, as well as lead remediation efforts
Coordinate and prepare for MRM Committee, and contribute to other board and management committees
Identify, design, and implement model risk metrics, measurements, and reporting
Ensure adherence to all model risk management processes and controls
Coordinate across regions to increase alignment and harmonization in MRM frameworks and practices
Coordinate MRM issues and governance with the firm’s investment risk and operational risk disciplines to contribute to the firm’s overall enterprise risk management framework
Be a thought-leader in model risk management field and stay abreast on model risk trends and leading industry practices to help shape MRM program in an evolving world

Fiduciary Requirements

Co-operate and co-ordinate with Compliance, Legal and Internal Audit on MRM regulatory, system and control issues
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of information in response to regulatory or other third-party requests
Support client RFP and due diligence activities with regard to MRM

Investment Risk responsibilities (training will be provided)

Run and review investment risk reports or dashboards to support Investment Risk Managers
Support new risk IT projects as project manager or business analyst

What We're Looking For

High achieving tertiary education in a business management or finance-related field
Previous MRM experience in investment management
Excellent quantitative skills and familiarity with various modelling techniques (linear regression, time series analysis, central limit theorem)
Collaborative and inclusive approach to stakeholder engagement
Experience implementing policies and procedures
Experience working with MRM frameworks, reporting and management information
Experience preparing presentations for senior management and governance committees
Strong written and oral communication skills, demonstrating clarity and accuracy
Experience with market or credit risk analytics or willingness to learn about these areas
Familiar with basic statistical measures (mean, median, mode, range, variance, standard deviation) and investment risk statistical metrics (VaR, Tracking Error, Sharpe Ratio, etc) a plus
Working towards a financial designation such as CFA, FRM, PRM a plus
Curious and driven to stay abreast of evolving MRM issues and regulation
Executes in line with responsibilities and seeks to deliver an outcome
Works collaboratively to drive process improvement across multiple business units
Self-starter able to be a sole contributor with support and guidance
