Purpose
The Model Shop Technician, supporting New Product Development across several of our key brands. These include, STANLEY®, BLACK+DECKER®, DᴇWALT® and CRAFTSMAN®, across product portfolios including Power Tools, Outdoor Products and Home Products.
The inhouse model shop allows the R&D teams to develop prototypes quicker and cheaper than using external companies.
The Job (responsibilities):
- Support local and global R&D teams producing parts and helping developing prototypes that aid product development.
- Supporting the Spennymoor and Global Industrial Design and Engineering teams in New Product Development. Handling requests for 3D prints, CNC, machining, preparing prototypes and photography models.
- Ensuring material orders are placed and adequate stock is available to meet the demands of the work entering the model shop.
- Working with outside service companies to ensure machine service and maintenance contracts are up to date.
- Maintaining the 3D printers / machines to ensure their continued operation and working with service companies if outside assistance is required.
- General management of the model shop to ensure it is kept in working order and to the highest standards expected by the business.
- Look out for and keep up to date and with the latest 3D printing and prototyping techniques to remain relevant and provide ways to be more efficient and productive.
The Person (requirements):
- Qualified to operate workshop machines: CNC, Lathe, milling machines and other heavy model shop machinery.
- 5+ years of Model Shop experience
- Experience of operating and basic maintenance of 3D printers in a commercial environment.
- Experience to operate a spray booth to prepare photo realistic phototypes.
- Experience with building rigs and prototypes.
- Knowledge of current Health & Safety at work regulations for a work shop environment.
- Basic knowledge of machine and 3D printer maintenance.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing and engineering principles and rapid prototyping technologies.
- Understanding of 3D CAD systems for CNC programming. CATIA an advantage
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Motivated and collaborative approach to teamwork with the ability to work within a global landscape.
- Excellent project and time management skills, self-motivated and ability to work to multiple deadlines.
