Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Senior Accountant, the Payroll Manager is responsible for knowing how to perform all payroll functions and assist the Senior Accountant with all duties related to payroll processing requiring functional accountability to both Finance and Human Resources departments.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs all payroll functions with functional accountability to both the Finance and Human Resource departments;
  • Assists with the preparation, distribution, and reporting processes for payroll;
  • Calculates wages and deductions for employees to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations;
  • Assists with the preparation and reporting of benefits on the general ledger;
  • Collaborates with Human Resources regarding updates to distribution and reporting of payroll cycles;
  • Prepares payments and government reports for the review, approval, and submission by the Executive Director of Human Resources;
  • Ensures that data entered into the payroll system is accurate and complete assuring compliance with policies and procedures;
  • Develops with the Executive Director of Human Resources the master payroll calendar and processing schedules;
  • Assist with the timekeeping reporting system, sick and vacation accruals reporting;
  • Prepares computer input from employee requests to process changes in the Employee Deductions record in the Human Resources/Payroll System;
  • Processes attendance records submitted by Departments and Schools;
  • Assists employees with payroll issues; and
  • Performs other duties as required.


Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree or 60 college accredited hours required.
  • 5 years of experience in payroll operations management required.


Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Require
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate within and outside of the organization;
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service;
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given; and
  • Experience with automated payroll systems, word processing and spreadsheet programs (Oracle Payroll, Munis Payroll and Microsoft Office) preferred.


$50,400 - $78,735 a year

Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

- Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.) part of the workday; 

- Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 30 pounds rarely; 

- Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals) rarely; 

- Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements rarely; 

- Normal setting for this job is an office/school setting.     


Performance Evaluation

The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
