Data Center Process Engineer

The Role

We are seeking an experienced engineer to contribute to the design and development of our innovative carbon removal system. Based out of our laboratory and engineering site just outside Princeton, NJ, this role focuses on developing process engineering solutions that enable the efficient integration of direct air capture with data center operations. This role focuses on supporting pilot-scale testing through careful selection and evaluation of critical process equipment. The ideal candidate will combine strong process engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience building pilot systems.


Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and equipment datasheets

  • Develop innovative process solutions to enable successful first-of-a-kind technology demonstrations

  • Size and select critical equipment based on heat and mass transfer requirements

  • Develop detailed equipment specifications for pilot plant components including:

    • Heat exchanger systems

    • Air handling equipment

    • Process instrumentation

    • Control systems

  • Evaluate equipment vendors and manage procurement process

  • Design piping systems and equipment layout

  • Support installation and commissioning of pilot systems

  • Develop operating procedures and safety protocols

  • Collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment with chemistry, pilot plant engineering, machine learning, and commercialization teams

Skills and Experiences

  • Background in chemical, mechanical, or process engineering with a focus on heat transfer and separation processes

  • 5+ years experience in process engineering, chemical engineering, or pilot plant development

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Heat exchanger design and selection

    • Blower and fan systems

    • Process instrumentation

    • Piping design

    • System controls

  • Preferred experience includes:

    • Hands-on experience building and commissioning pilot systems

    • Equipment sizing calculations

    •  Vendor management

    • System integration

    • Plant layout

    • Safety systems

    • Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g. gPROMS, Aspen)

    • Proficiency with engineering design software(e.g. AutoCAD)

    • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment
