Packaging Engineer 2 (Smith & Nephew, Inc., Memphis, TN):
Develop and implement package testing approach for product sterilization modifications. Responsible for ensuring that packaging for assigned product lines meet user needs, address CTQ (“Critical-to-Quality”) requirements, are cost effective, and promote the desired company quality and messaging. Write and perform design validations, assessments and feasibility studies as needed, which may require testing on new packages as required. Research, identify, and pilot new technologies and methodologies to improve current packaging designs and packaging processes, and propose solutions and opportunities to management for review. Develop material specifications for package components and raw materials, and prepare process specifications for appropriate processes, including protocol development and related testing.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science or a related field plus 2 years of experience in the job offered or related role in design and development of medical device sterile packaging.
Of the required experience, must have 2 years of experience in each of the following:

Computer aided design (“CAD”);

Packaging Materials such as but not limited to: Carton, Tyvek, Polymers, Adhesives, or Inks;

ISO (International Organization for Standardization): 11607, 13845, 14971;

ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials): F88, F1886, F1114, D4169, D4332, F1980; and
-
Medical Device packaging design and development.
Must be able and willing to travel domestically for up to 15% of the time to visit suppliers and other Smith & Nephew sites as well as to attend industry-related conferences.
