Founding Engineer - Float

Job Title: Full-Stack Engineer

Location: preference for NY (remote ok)

About float: Our mission is to eliminate the barriers to healthy household finances in America. We’re starting with the 100M+ Americans that can’t access healthy credit because the on time payments they make each month aren’t being reported to the credit bureaus. We’ve started float to close the credit data gap for these folks and build a more financially inclusive world. Join us!

Role Overview: As one of the first engineers at float, you will play a critical role in shaping the technology and product direction of our company. We are looking for a full-stack engineer who is mission-aligned and eager to build innovative and impactful solutions from the ground up. You will work closely with the founders (backgrounds in fintech and AI engineering) to bring the company vision to life, make key architectural decisions, and grow an early-stage startup.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the founding team to understand product requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

  • Design, develop, and deploy full-stack web applications.

  • Make informed architectural decisions to ensure scalability, maintainability, and performance.

  • Co-lead product direction and priorities in a fast-moving environment.

  • Contribute to the overall technical strategy and roadmap of the company.

Qualifications:

  • Strong alignment with float’s mission to improve the financial health of individuals across America, preference for lived experience.

  • Proven experience as a full-stack engineer with proficiency in both front-end and back-end development.

  • Solid understanding of one or more front-end frameworks (e.g. but not limited to React, Angular, Vue) and one or more back-end frameworks (e.g. but not limited to Node.js, Django, Ruby on Rails).

  • Expertise in database design and management (e.g. SQL, NoSQL).

  • Proven experience with cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and deployment practices (e.g., CI/CD pipelines).

  • Ability to make thoughtful architectural decisions and understand trade-offs.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in the fintech or financial services industry.

  • Experience with the credit data industry.

  • Familiarity with data analytics and reporting tools.

  • Previous experience working at a startup.
