 **Hourly Pay starts at $34/hour based on experience** TUITION REIMBURSEMNT ASSISTANCE FOR 2024 Graduates! Must have Nursing degree and Nursing licensure.


JOB SUMMARY:

Inform patients regarding the surgical procedures provided by Planned Parenthood and provide nursing care to the patient during the procedure and in recovery area.  Help ensure that surgical patients care from admit to release is consistent with PPSWO protocols and operating procedures.  Collaborate with Director of Nursing, Front Office Coordinator and other members of the nursing team to develop daily plan for patient care.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.      Participate each clinic day in the setting up of recovery room to include restocking supplies, performing narcotic count and preparing medications.  Ensure emergency cart is appropriately stocked.

2.      Participate in patient follow-up, including taking “nurse” calls and scheduling post-abortion check-ups, providing ectopic precautions, making referrals, consulting with physician for orders and plans of care.  Thoroughly document all patient follow-up in patient charts, appropriate logs and complete

Incident Reports when necessary.

3.      Prior to elective abortion, provide supportive education, review of pregnancy options, assure informed consent, review contraceptive choices and help determine plan for birth control with patients. Review medical history; determine any contraindications or need for special medical consideration prior to abortion.

4.      Admit, assess and release patients in Recovery Room, ruling out any complications, consulting with physician as needed.

5.      Administer or call in to pharmacy patient medications as ordered by the physician or according to standing orders and document.  Intravenous therapy will be performed within the RN’s scope of practice.

6.      Assist physician in procedure room during the administration of conscious sedation and recover conscious sedation patients.

7.      Perform Surgical Assistant duties as needed and assist Surgical Assistant as requested.

8.      Rotate taking on-call rotation a minimum of one week out of every month.  Document and follow-up on after-hour calls to completion.

9.      Assist Surgical Nursing Coordinator with clinic and patient support.

10.  Remain familiar with and updated on Planned Parenthood protocols and operating procedures.

11.  Fully participate in all health center efforts related to patient care, customer services, productivity and clinic flow.

12.  Utilize PPSWO’s practice management system and electronic medical record system effectively.

13.  Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

    

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

·         RN license required.  OB/GYN, recovery room or emergency room experience preferred.

·         Maintain active Ohio RN license and operate within “Standards of Safe Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses” as specified by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

·         ACLS certification required.

·         Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

·         Knowledge of contraceptive technology preferred.

·         Previous experience interviewing, education and crisis intervention skills with clients.

·         Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a medical emergency.

·         Able to write and speak English.

·         Ability to operate a computer, keyboard and multi-key telephone.

·         Ability to function well as a team member.

·         Ability to treat patients with respect and sensitivity.

·         Ability to communicate professionally with individuals of diverse backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.

·         Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sensitivity in dealing with clients sexuality and reproductive healthcare choices.

·         Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and Saturdays and rotate through after-hours medical call system.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

·         Ability to lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, sit, talk, hear, stand, bend, walk; use hands and fingers,

     handle or operate objects, reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl,

     and use repetitive motions of the hands and wrists.

·         Ability to get to the work site; also other PPSWO health centers and meetings when required.

·         May be exposed to communicable diseases and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. 

·         May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
