Platform Engineer II

Job Purpose:

The Platform Engineer II is responsible for assisting in defining the technical strategy and evolution of the platforms and associated products consuming the capabilities developed. Collaborating with the Architects to translate business needs into innovative business solutions that will improve the customer experience and is responsible to Test, Validate, Design, Develop and document technologies and solutions for a variety of communication applications.

Essential Functions:

40%

• Test/Design/Develop Network solutions that leverage various network domains.
• Responsible for testing and validating the technical strategy and evolution of the platforms and associated products consuming the capabilities developed, translating business needs into innovative business solutions.

20%

• Perform Proof of Concept and Certification/Validation testing of new or modified network products in a lab environment using Layer 2-7 network/application testing tools.
• Provide and support creation of High Level Designs / Low Level Designs, Deployment Guidelines, Engineering Releases and associated test plans and results.

• Document method and procedures, work instructions, provisioning guidelines and engineering specifications. Interface at the appropriate technical level to assist with the definition, design, test, and support of services offered over various data networks and access platforms.
• Responsible for the development of Next Generation Network and Service standards and policies.

• Assist Operations team with First Office Applications and/or initial customer deployment.
• Provide Tier III support to Engineering and Services Operations Team on escalated technical issues.

Education and Certifications:

Two years of College or Technical School resulting in an Associate's Degree or equivalent

Certifications / Accreditations / Licenses:

Associate / Professional Level Certifications for various Core, Access, Data Center, VoIP, AWS, Azure and Middleware Applications and Services

Experience:

5+ Years

Previous Work Experience (include years preferred if applicable):

• Background and experience in the development of network oriented applications and services across multiple domainsBackground and experience in lab testing, quality assurance and technology / application proof of concept benchmarking.
• Five or more years of previous professional experience in a large, diverse, and multi-location Managed/IT Service Provider environments
• Three or more years performing analysis, debugging and resolving network hardware and software problems in a production and lab network

Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Previous experience in Network Engineering a plus
• Experience in designing and implementing CI/CD Pipelines in AWS or Azure
• Experience in Linux environments, SROS, JunOS, IOS, or any network vendor CLI is a plus.
• Experience with SDWAN such as Meraki, VeloCloud, Silver Peak or other SDWAN vendors is a plus.
• Experience with REST API
• Experience with Python development
• Experience with Git
• Experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to evaluate product and service behaviors
• Working experience with troubleshooting tools such as traceroute, dig, netdump/snoop, and packet analysis applications
• Familiarity with security related Internet information sources, IETF RFC Standards and ITU-T Specifications
• Experience with the configuration and administration of both Hardware and Software based Firewalls
• Solid levels of writing skills and ability to communicate effectively through concise writing

Work Environment:

100% Remote w/ potentially some ask for travel.

• This role requires working with a team of other network engineers, solutions architects, IT professionals, and potentially clients.
• his role requires remote collaboration, with the aforementioned. Work can be fast-paced and dynamic, with the need to troubleshoot and resolve network issues in a timely manner.
• This role requires the ability may to work on multiple projects simultaneously and be able to adapt quickly to changing requirements.
• The environment may also require to be on-call or to be available outside of normal working hours to provide support to clients.
