Overview

The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking postal clerks for Mail Services. Under direct supervision, performs routine duties involved in collecting, sorting, distributing, and stamping U.S. mail, campus mail, parcels, and freight in a designated postal facility.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

Picks up and delivers mail to various United States Post Offices.
Sorts U.S. mail, parcels, freight, and campus mail.
Delivers mail from truck to various assigned routes throughout the campus.
Occasionally makes early morning and late evening pickups as required; makes special delivery trips.
Detects faulty operation of equipment and performs minor repairs.
Sells postal stamps, replenishes stamp stock and related postal items such as post cards, envelopes, etc.
Resolves mail related problems.
May operate postage machines and assist in processing outbound mail.
Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a high school/vocational school education or equivalent.

Certifications/Licenses

Valid driver’s license, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.
Use of personal vehicle may be required for department business.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must be able to lift and move up to 70 pounds.
Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must have effective client service skills.
May be required to stand for long periods.
May be required to work staggered hours.

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
