Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Program Associate.

The WTC Environmental Health Center (WTC EHC) Clinical Center of Excellence provides medical monitoring and treatment services for WTC Health Program Survivors whose health were impacted due to exposure to WTC dust because they resided, worked, or attended school in the NYC Disaster area. Health conditions related to 9/11 dust exposure must be certified by NIOSH in order for a Survivor to receive coverage for treatment services. As such, the initial health evaluation is the first critical step that WTC EHC members must complete to evaluate if a Survivor has a WTC-related health condition and is eligible for treatment under the WTC Health Program.

Working closely with WTC Clinical and Data Center staff, the Certification and Transfer Coordinator plays an essential role in ensuring the accurate, timely and efficient submission of WTC EHC member certification documentation to NIOSH/CDF for approval.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review certifications for errors and ensuring the submissions meet federal guidelines
  • In conjunction with the WTC leadership, update the Certification policy and procedures as necessary.Work with WTC members and other WTC clinics on member transfer requests, including record management, tracking, and reporting duties. Other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor to ensure excellent patient experience and efficient clinic flow, including coverage of clinic front desk.
  • Provide respectful and culturally appropriate patient assistance, on the phone and in the clinic; utilize interpreter services as need to communicate in the patients preferred language.
  • Utilize the WTC database application to identify patients whose certification has been delayed or remained unresolved to resolve and close
  • Tracking certification related data for reports to federal agency
  • Auditing certification related information in the WTCEHC database to proactively address errors to ensure timely processing of documentation and to address delayed or unresolved certification request cases
  • Managing WTCEHC database certification information, including inputting submission information and decisions received by the federal agency, NIOSH
  • Responding to all certification related inquiries from internal staff and providers, as well as external inquiries from patients and other organizations


Minimum qualifications:

Associates' Degree is required. Minimum of 1 Year of related experience in an office setting or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Effective Oral, written communication and interpersonal skills. Computer Skills -Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power point and Access. Ability to develop basic formulae for spreadsheets; set up routine computer procedures; Ability to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software. Ability to proofread documents and write clear, concise 1st draft. Ability to type at a speed of at least 45 net words per minutes.Knowledge of standard office practices. Ability to multi-task while paying attention to details. Ability to use standard office equipment such as copy machines, multi-line telephones, fax machines.

Preferred qualifications:

Associates degree in a related field with 2 to 3 years of related experience in an office setting is preferred.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $39,601.12 - $60,170.63 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
