News Corp’s Global Data Team seeks a highly organized and results-driven data team project manager to oversee our analytics data projects and initiatives.
The Global Data Team helps provide insights across the websites and mobile apps for our many digital brands, such as wsj.com, realtor.com, nypost.com, and thetimes.co.uk. In addition, our global strategy team uses these insights to identify key trends affecting our business, and by our brands to benchmark performance and identify opportunities to learn from other parts of our business.
We manage data using modern data technologies, work in Agile, and use tools and languages, including Google BigQuery, Ascend.IO, Python, SQL, and Data Studio. We are a small team that makes a significant impact and works across many teams and with many brands at all levels of seniority.
This role reports into the Chief Operating Officer’s Project Management Office team and is assigned to the Global Data Team, where the SVP of Data Science directs the analytics work.
The role involves the following responsibilities:
Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets for data projects, ensuring timely and efficient project delivery.
Drive planned outcomes on time, on budget and to the specified quality.
Coordinate and lead tech workstream meetings.
Manage cross-functional teams, including data analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders, to ensure project goals and timelines are met.
Work closely with stakeholders within our regional Business Units as well as News Corp HQ teams to manage all stages of our projects, from requirements gathering / ideation, through to integrating our services into their operational systems, managing issues, and identifying new opportunities for us to add value on top of what we deliver - setting good expectations and ensuring work is appropriately prioritized.
Manage high and low level communications within our team and between our stakeholders, ensuring our teams have a clear backlog, and are empowered to work on the right things at the right time.
Partner with PMO to handle program-level reporting and adherence to PMO standards (artefacts, cadences, etc.)
Responsible for scope change control, risk and dependencies management and issues tracking
Monitor and report on project metrics, such as project costs, resource utilization, and project timelines.
Skills / Competencies
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:
Experienced project manager with PMI certification or equivalent experience (required)
Is happy to balance the needs of working iteratively – in an environment where what we need to do is not always apparent until we’ve tested or prototyped some ideas – whilst bringing good organizational skills and rigour to what you do so we ensure our work is visible, well documented to set sensible expectations with our stakeholders.
Loves finding broken things, trying to understand why and fixing them.
Has a strong appetite for learning and is flexible, creative and enthusiastic in approaching problems and working with colleagues.
Is good at critical thinking and bringing analytical / sense-making skills to problems you face, including asking good questions, be this why things are done a certain way or why data looks a certain way.
Wants to develop their technical skills as well as their business expertise.
Ability to define and execute multiple detailed activity plans simultaneously
Ability to conduct and facilitate workshops with business representatives, management and executive, team member resources, and external third party groups
Effective written and verbal communicator

Pay Range: $75,000 - $155,000
