Position Overview:
The purchasing agent evaluates demand needs at our stores against inventory and manages incoming supply accordingly to drive maximum levels of customer service. Additionally, this role serves as the liaison between our sellers, field managers, suppliers, and freight carriers through the use of analytics and clear concise communication.
What you'll do:
- Review and analyze daily below-order-point queues and procure products for our network of branches or distribution centers
- Communicate with stores regarding urgent product needs or special needs for our customers and execute as needed
- Communicate with vendors regarding product availability, product cost verification, and purchase order statuses on a regular basis
- Assist store managers or field support functions with special projects, including but not limited to early orders, product promotions, new product introductions and vendor negotiations
- Drive continuous improvement for the organization by identifying and researching areas of opportunity, and implementing solutions to improve our team’s efficiency
- Actively participate in Sales and Operations alignment sessions by providing updates for your area of oversight
- Drive unproductive inventory reduction for the organization through the active transfer of products between branches
- Identify and escalate issues with supplier lead time or fulfillment shortcomings
- Provide purchasing forecasts to your top suppliers and track accuracy of said forecast
- Record and help train associates on Standard Operating Procedures for existing and future tasks and processes
- Provide excellent customer service to branches and suppliers you interact with on a daily basis
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Understanding of purchasing and inventory management philosophies
- Strong analytical skills and excellent customer service skills
- Proficient with Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- 4 year Bachelor’s Degree in business, supply chain, logistics, economics, or similar focus or equivalent
- 2-4 years work experience in supply chain, retail or wholesale environment a plus
- Experience using Oracle, SAP, JDA or a like ERP system for inventory management a plus
- Experience in a high volume, fast paced, customer service role a plus
