Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce a competitive opportunity to serve as a part-time Quality Assurance and Control Coordinator in our Central Office Traffic Operations Division.

The selected candidate will support, and expand, current quality assurance and control measures associated with traffic and traveler information from internal and external sources. Collaborate with existing Transportation Operations Support Center (TOSC) and Transportation Operations Center (TOC) teams to support a common operating view of the systems and impacts statewide as well as quality control and assurance. Monitor and review of traffic and traveler information sources, documentation of exceptions and communication to identified sources. Develop and present reporting of analysis and trends associated with traffic and travel information sources. Research and develop associated policies, procedures, and other applicable supporting guidance. Communicate with Transportation Operations Support Center, and other partners, elements on system issues as well as to obtain information supportive of a common operations view. Provide program support services to the work unit. May include note taking at meetings, scheduling meetings, coordinating travel resources, and supporting filing activities (online or hardcopy).

This position is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly(wage) positions may not work more than an average of 29 hours per week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during the wage employment year (May1-April 30. This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with researching and review of large data sets from diverse systems and sources.

  • Ability to gather appropriate data, analyze the data, prepare reports from data, and present in a presentable format.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, and in writing with diverse audiences and partners. Ability to make presentation to internal and external audiences.

  • Proficient in the use of computers and software applications e.g. MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Teams.

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize multiple assignments within scheduled time frames.

  • Ability to promote positive relationships and build coalitions among internal and external partners.

  • Ability to work flexible shifts to include weekend and evening hours as assigned. Normal business office hours are expected at three (8) eight hour shifts, and one (5) five hour shift weekly for a total 29 hours weekly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in business or related field preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for degree.

  • Preferred intermediate experience in policy research, development, interpretation, and analysis.

  • Preferred two years operational experience in traffic management, motorist assistance, or emergency operation programs and services.

  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications and tools.

  • Experience with traffic management software and systems.

  • Preferred experience in traffic management, motorist assistance, or emergency operation programs and services.
