Job Description

The Red Gate Group is seeking a Technical Writer (Policy) to support the Office of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Privacy, Civil Liberties, and Transparency (OATSD(PCLT)). This critical role supports the Department of Defense (DoD) in managing governance, enterprise risk, and compliance across areas such as privacy, civil liberties, intelligence oversight, and regulatory policy. You will play an integral role in ensuring clear, accurate, and policy-compliant documentation to support high-level decision-making and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy and Document Development: Assist in creating and refining plans, staff packages, and other Directorate products, ensuring alignment with DoD policies and procedures.
  • Editorial Review: Provide meticulous editorial review of instruments, issuances, and correspondence, ensuring all materials reflect current staff policies, directives, and high-quality standards.
  • Staffing Coordination: Support staffing processes for communications with senior leadership, including the Secretary of Defense, Deputy Secretary of Defense, and other DoD Component Heads, adhering to the DoD Manual for Written Material (DoD 5110.04-M).
  • Workflow Planning: Collaborate with Government personnel to develop and maintain a master work schedule, streamlining staff product schedules and workflows.
  • Records Management: Maintain and file all work products daily in compliance with Federal laws and DoD records management policies.
  • Leadership Advisory: Provide informed recommendations to leadership on policy documents to ensure accuracy and consistency with Directorate standards.

Qualifications

  • Clearance: Active Secret
  • Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in technical writing, policy development, or a related field.
    • Proven expertise in providing editorial review for high-level government documentation, including staff packages, issuances, and green sheets.
    • Familiarity with DoD Manual for Written Material (DoD 5110.04-M) and DoD communication standards.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Strong proficiency in written communication and the ability to manage complex workflows effectively.
    • Knowledge of Federal and DoD policies related to records management.
