Research Finance Analyst

Reporting at the School of Nursing’s Grants Manager, the Research Finance Analyst is a member of a team
of research analysts supporting the research portfolio of the School of Nursing faculty in four academic departments and an Organized Research Unit (ORU). Collectively, the team manages a portfolio of 170+ awards totaling approximately $22M of sponsored and intramural awards for approximately 90 PI’s/faculty.

The Research Finance Analyst is expected to manage a portfolio of about 15 grants for 8 to 10 PI’s.

Under general supervision, develops and / or oversees research proposals, awards and / or transactions related to contract and grant management for federal, state, local and private sponsors.

Maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies.

Works on proposals of moderate scope such as single investigator where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, financial reporting, etc.).

Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. May be eligible for delegated signature authority. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

The Department of Family Health Care Nursing (FHCN) is one of four departments in the School of Nursing (SON). FHCN prepares students to receive Master’s degrees in the five specialty areas of Family Nurse Practitioner, Midwifery / Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, and PhDs in Nursing Science

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of UCSF HR administration guidelines and process for Academic and staff positions, including payroll and one-time compensation
  • Working knowledge of UCSF research administration, including systems and tools and processes. (MyReports, UCPath, UPlan, RAS, CACTAS, eProposal, PeopleSoft Financials, Award Verification, GL Verification)
