Position Overview:
Riverdale’s Science Department seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative teacher of Science with an interest in and aptitude for teaching Physics at various levels. Our middle school curriculum begins with earth and environmental science (sixth grade), life science (seventh grade) and chemical and physical science (eighth grade). Our upper school curriculum begins with a two-year sequence of Integrated Biology/Chemistry taught in ninth and tenth grade. In eleventh and twelfth grades, students can be placed into honors-level courses in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics and/or choose from various science electives, including Psychology and Environmental Science. Our website offers an overview of our Middle School and Upper School Science curriculum.
A Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science) or a related field and at least three to five years of past teaching experience in Physics at the Middle and/or Upper School level is required for this position. Teachers who can effectively engage students in inquiry-based practices through the use of laboratory work, projects, and hands-on activities are especially attractive. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to creating an inclusive classroom that nurtures the diverse learners within it. All full-time teachers participate in the life of the school community through advising, leading activities, service learning, and other co-curriculars.

Transportation: Shuttle service is available to/from the 242nd St / Broadway subway station. Sabbatical: Full time teaching faculty are eligible for a sabbatical after 10 years of employment.
