About the role:

Samsara is seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Scientist to join our People Analytics team. As a Senior Data Engineer / Scientist, your primary responsibilities will be designing and maintaining data pipelines, along with building and transforming data structures according to business needs. You will work directly with data scientists, data analysts, and Tableau developers on the People Analytics team to ship top quality analytic products that help ensure decisions regarding Samsara’s people are properly informed by data.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US and Canada except Alaska, Austin metro, California, Chicago metro, Connecticut, Dallas metro, Denver metro, Houston metro, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Washington, and Washington DC metro. Relocation is not available.

In this role, you will:

Build and maintain highly reliable computed tables, incorporating data from various sources, including unstructured and highly sensitive data
Access, manipulate, and integrate external datasets with internal data
Building analytical and statistical models to identify patterns, anomalies, and root causes
Leverage SQL and Python to shape and aggregate data
Incorporate generative AI tools (ChatGPT Enterprise) into production data pipelines and automated workflows
Collaborate closely with data scientists, data analysts, and Tableau developers to ship top quality analytic products
Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

BS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
6+ years experience in a data engineering and data science-focused role
Proficiency in data manipulation and processing in SQL and Python
Expertise building data pipelines with new API endpoints from their documentation
Proficiency in building ETL pipelines to handle large volumes of data
Demonstrated experience in designing data models at scale

An ideal candidate also has:

M.S. or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline
Experience scaling data pipelines for performance
Experience building statistical and other analytical models
Experience maintaining data pipelines with Databricks
Experience with techniques to protect sensitive data structures
Experience automating manual workflows with code
Experience with Spark-based data platforms

Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver Total Direct Compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is at or above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock unit awards (RSUs) for eligible roles. For eligible roles, a new hire RSU award may be awarded at the time of hire, and additional RSU refresh grants may be awarded annually.

We pay for performance, and top performers in eligible roles may receive above-market equity refresh awards which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.

The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$95,795—$128,800 USD
