Job Title: Senior Programmer/Analyst - Financial/Administrative Systems

Scope: Under the direction of the Director of Application Engineering, the Senior Programmer/Analyst - Financial/Administrative (F/A) Systems works with business units and other IT staff to identify, define and implement business and technical requirements, integrate systems, develop system enhancements, ensuring that F/A tools and related products interoperate with existing systems consistent with the Club’s overall technical architecture. This person also works with key vendors to assess products and product functions, resolve product problems, and influence product direction. This person develops knowledge of Club’s business processes and core competencies, and the manner in which the Club’s work is done.


Job activities include but are not limited to:
  • ERP, HCM/HRIS, BI, and Systems Integration Solutions and Support. Identifies, analyzes, and documents project business requirements and use cases. Designs, codes, tests, implements, and integrates systems, and also develops enhancements, web services, and other products in support of overall F/A requirements.  Defines and tracks associated tasks and schedules.  Monitors and analyzes existing systems and procedures and implements modifications to those systems and integrations to maintain high-quality data and best meet business needs and improve IT system functions, processes, and procedures.
  • Standards. Defines and supports architectural standards supporting F/A systems and related products.
  • Stakeholder engagement. Collaborates closely with colleagues through each phase of a given project and throughout the lifecycle of a product. Is a responsive and proactive partner to business users and drives change management efforts as appropriate. Able to clearly and effectively communicate as needed to the full range of possible stakeholders at all levels and in all units of the organization.
  • Workday Expertise. Stays current with Workday and related technologies, ensuring that technical solutions are compatible with the Club’s business needs and technical architecture. Responsible for understanding, researching, and testing system updates and new functionality, then working with users to prepare and adopt changes.  Serves as a subject matter expert for those wishing to gain greater understanding of the Workday platform and related technologies.
  • Other.  Performs special project assignments and miscellaneous duties as assigned.


The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:
  • Workday Expertise.  You have a comprehensive understanding of Workday functions, configuration options, and issues and a strong Workday Extend/Workday Integration cloud development skill set.
  • General Developer Skills and Experience.  You have demonstrated knowledge of a modern general purpose programming language, web integration architecture, and structured testing/QA practices.  You have deep experience in information systems management and a successful track record of delivering a number of varied large scale system functions on-time and on-budget.
  • Business Analysis.  You have the ability to understand complex business issues and relate these issues to system functions.
  • Communication & teamwork.  You have competency in communicating project status updates, describing technical issues to other team members & stakeholders, and collaborating when you or other team members need assistance tackling tough problems.
  • Committed to evolution.You are committed to continuously deepening and evolving your own understanding of systems of oppression through study, openness, and humility. And you easily recognize your own relationship to privilege and power, examining and shifting your behaviors as appropriate.

The strongest candidates will also demonstrate the following experience, skills and competencies:
  • Workday Certifications.  You have or plan to obtain Workday certifications, in particular those leading up to and including SuiteCloud Developer and/or Workday Pro.
  • Netsuite exposure. Some prior experience administering a Netsuite instance.


$136,000 - $136,000 a year
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $136,000 annually.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and Progressive Workers Union or Sierra Employee Alliance, depending on location. 

The Sierra Club offers a competitive salary package commensurate with skills and experience plus excellent benefits that include medical, dental, and vision coverage, and a retirement savings 401(k) plan. 

This is a category 3 exempt, represented position.
