This role is not eligible for 100% remote work and employees must live within a commutable distance of the Bay Area where the role is based. This position is a temporary role.About The RoleWe are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Android Engineer to join our mobile engineering team. The Lead Android Engineer will work closely with the Android Architect to drive the development and performance optimization of a complex, consumer-based Android mobile application. This role involves leading a pod of Android engineers, contributing to the overall architecture, and ensuring that the development process aligns with best practices and the strategic goals set by the Android Architect.What You’ll Do• Pod Leadership: Lead a pod of Android engineers, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality, performant code on time. Provide day-to-day technical direction and support to team members.• Collaboration: Work closely with the Android Architect, product managers, UX/UI designers, and other engineering teams to ensure that development aligns with business objectives and user experience standards.• Code Development & Review: Actively contribute to the codebase through hands-on development. Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure adherence to best practices in mobile development.• Performance Optimization: Implement strategies and techniques to optimize the performance of the Android application, working alongside the Android Architect to identify and address bottlenecks.• Mentorship: Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-level engineers within the pod. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.• Quality Assurance: Work with the QA team to develop and execute test plans that ensure the application meets performance and quality standards. Support the CI/CD pipeline with automated testing strategies.• Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of the codebase, architectural decisions, and development processes to support ongoing maintenance and onboarding of new team members.What You’ll Bring• Experience:• 6+ years of experience in Android development, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.• Demonstrated experience in leading a team or pod of engineers in the development of consumer-facing mobile applications.• Strong understanding of Android SDK, Kotlin/Java, and modern architectural patterns (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture).• Experience with performance optimization and profiling tools in Android development.• Technical Skills:• Expertise in Android development environments and performance optimization (including measurement).• Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks for Android.• Strong knowledge of cloud-based services and API integration.• Experience developing and maintaining shared resource libraries consumed by multiple engineering teams.• Soft Skills:• Strong leadership and team management skills.• Excellent problem-solving abilities with a focus on delivering practical solutions.• Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.Additional Qualifications• Familiarity with security best practices in mobile development• Experience in Agile/Scrum methodologiesAbout UsSlalom is a purpose-led, global business and technology consulting company.
