Slate is hiring an audience engagement editor to help grow our website and podcast audiences. Ideal candidates think strategically about connecting with readers and listeners, and building lasting relationships with those audiences, with a focus on deepening engagement. They have a newsy sensibility; know how to write compelling copy for social media feeds; think creatively about how to combat news fatigue; have ideas for accessing new audiences; and are able to use analytics to guide strategy.
Slate values surprising ideas and smart analysis in our journalism, and we want the same on our audience team. The audience engagement editor will be able to identify how digital media trends are evolving and have a desire to experiment with new strategies and test those instincts. They will own projects from start to finish and work collaboratively with the rest of the newsroom.
This is a position covered under a collective bargaining agreement between Slate and the Writers Guild of America East.
Slate has offices in New York and D.C., though remote candidates will be considered for this position.
