Software Engineering Manager

About the role:


We are seeking an energetic and motivated Software Engineering Manager to join our dynamic startup environment. You should be as passionate as we are about delivering amazing software and willing to play a key role leading our engineering team in order to facilitate that mission. You will be responsible for the well-being and productivity of our engineering team. We are searching for someone who is able to manage complex software projects across several business disciplines. Someone who likes to manage people and is excited to lead a team that is building software that delivers affordable and comprehensive healthcare.


What you'll do:


  • Manage and lead a team of exceptional developers in multiple time zones, across a variety of interconnected projects
  • Drive the execution and delivery of software systems and features by collaborating with many cross-functional teams, architects, product owners and engineers
  • Daily management of standups as the ScrumMaster for the engineering team
  • Partner with business owners to identify opportunities to streamline processes, align with objectives and priorities, and inform the business of tradeoffs and risks associated with our technical approach to solving the business problem at hand
  • Ensure teams have clear priorities and adequate resources
  • Participating in cross-functional coordination, planning, and reviews with other teams
  • Providing technical guidance, career development, and mentoring to team members
  • Maintaining and fostering our culture by interviewing and hiring only the most qualified individuals
  • Contributing as needed to development tasks such as coding and feature verifications to assist teams with release commitments, to gain an understanding of the systems as well as to keep your technical acumen sharp


About you:


  • Remote work from within the U.S. is acceptable and we have offices in San Francisco, Seattle and Austin
  • Bachelors / Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of total engineering experience with at least 3+ years experience leading software engineering teams
  • Experience managing distributed systems, working with both cloud-native, kubernetes and Salesforce
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to be nimble, proactive, and comfortable working with minimal specifications
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring and managing engineers
  • Working experience of software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, CI, build processes, testing, and operations
  • You have deep interest in backend or frontend technologies but are comfortable across the whole stack
  • Ability to challenge developers on their approach and guide their choices
  • Aptitude to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the design, development, configuration, testing, deployment, monitoring and operation of technology platforms
