Materials Research Scientist

The company's approach combines the Spiritus Sorbent and the Spiritus Carbon Orchard, offering a scalable and modular system for low-cost DAC and sequestration (DAC+S). We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Material Scientist to join our dynamic team. This dual-role position focuses on both research and design, as we quickly scale our novel technology. The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver with a can-do attitude. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating with small multidisciplinary teams to drive projects from concept to commercialization. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new materials development activities 

  • Conduct research and experiments to develop novel CO2 sorbent materials with specific properties and characteristics 

  • Analyze and characterize materials using advanced techniques such as SEM, IR spectroscopy, TGA, XRF, and others   

  • Design and implement testing protocols to evaluate material properties and performance 

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for new materials 

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate research findings 

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in materials science and related technologies 

Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field;  

  • 3-5 years of industry experience in materials development or related research roles 

  • Hands-on experience with material characterization techniques and analytical equipment 

  • Proficiency in data analysis and experimental design 

  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Experience with product lifecycle assessment and sustainability principles is a plus 

   

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Prior experience in a startup or growth company  

Physical Demands & Work Environment: 

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for prolonged periods. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. 

  • Work Environment: Must have flexibility to work longer schedules to complete necessary tasks. Ability to wear PPE especially while working with chemicals and hazardous materials.
