Government Affairs Specialist

The Government Affairs Specialist collaborates with the Office of Government Affairs (OGA) team to execute the OGA Strategic Plan. Monitors, analyzes and prepares written summaries about proposed legislation and regulations that could impact St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Takes leading role to ensure that legislative/regulatory tracking database is constantly updated and maintained for the OGA team. Assists in managing relationships with key elected officials and public policymakers by maintaining master lists, rosters, and calendars. Crafts and updates content for internal and external communications. Actively engages in government affairs-related activities, including monitoring hearings and meetings, preparing correspondence and coordinating event logistics.Better at Work. Join us and you'll quickly see why St. Jude is consistently ranked by our employees on Glassdoor as a "Best Place to Work."This position is open to remote consideration.Job Responsibilities:• Provide project management and administrative support for the Government Affairs team (e.g., material preparation and distribution, correspondence, event/project logistics, scheduling, and coordination).• Assist with reading and understanding proposed legislation and regulations.• Provide ongoing support (e.g., creation and maintenance of master lists, rosters, and calendars) for managing relationships with key elected officials and other public policymakers.• Create and update content for internal communications and external correspondence.• Participate as requested in government affairs-related activities (e.g., hearings, meetings, and webinars).• Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.Minimum Education and/or Training• BS in Biology or Life Science's is the preferred educational requirement or Bachelor's degree in public affairs, political science, or related field required.Minimum Experience:• Minimum Experience: 1+ years experience in health care, policy, or campaign environment or life sciences.• Experience Exception: Juris Doctorate degree with internship experience.• Some experience in program coordination, preferred• Ability to travel once every other month• Advanced degree in biomedical research or life sciences, with completed internship in Washington, DC through the FDA, CDC, American Association for Advancement of Science (AAAS) or similar organization preferred.CompensationIn recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
