About Stainless

Stainless is a fast-growing tech startup building the future of APIs. Our customers include industry leaders like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Cloudflare. We just raised our $25 million Series A led by a16z with participation from Sequoia, The General Partnership, Felicis, Zapier, and MongoDB.

We are currently 15-20 people based primarily in NYC (just west of SoHo) and looking to grow to ~70 in NYC over the next 3 years. We were founded in 2022 and are backed by top investors including Sequoia.

We’re hiring our first designer to shape the future of the Stainless product.

This is an in-person role based in New York City.

Position overview

We're looking for an exceptional designer who wants to set an uncommonly high bar for design.

You’ll be responsible for all aspects of design at Stainless, from initial user research, to wire-framing/prototyping, crafting polished designs, and ultimately guiding your work into production, by writing and/or reviewing frontend PRs.

We believe that good design is most critically how a product works. To this end, we hope you'll get to know our early customers and continuously apply what you learn from them toward shaping our product.

Within your first 6 months, we anticipate hiring at least one other designer. We expect you'll contribute significantly in this process, taking a leading role in identifying, vetting and, deciding on our initial design hires.

Responsibilities

Day-to-day you'll be responsible for:

  • Refining existing functionality + designing major improvements to existing products.

  • Leading design from inception to launch on greenfield products.

  • Deeply understanding how developers think + designing products to exceed their expectations.

  • Establishing a beautiful, functional, and cohesive Stainless design language.

  • Creating pixel perfect designs + collaborating with engineering to guide your work into production.

  • Stewarding marketing, asset, and brand design.

  • Identifying outlier design talent and growing our design team.
