State of New Hampshire Job PostingRevenue AdministrationTaxpayer Services109 Pleasant Street Concord NH 03301Revenue TechnicianPosition #14469SOC 13 Band 2 $17.81 to $20.80• This position offers a Trainee Status at a pay rate of $17.19 per hour;candidate must meet the minimum qualifications within one (1) year of hire date**The State of New Hampshire, Revenue Administration, Taxpayer Services has a full-time vacancy for Revenue Technician.Summary:Examine taxpayer returns and information for preparation of processing using standard specialized equipment; process returns/documents and remittance according to established procedures to ensure correct processing and posting of tax documents and payments.YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS - Under a recent change to the rules, an applicant's relevant experience now counts towards formal education degrees referenced below! See Per 405.01 .18 Months of additional relevant experience = Associate's degree36 Months of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's degree54 Months of additional relevant experience = Master's degreeOther information:Education: Associate's degree from a recognized college or technical institute with major study in accounting, business, economics, finance, computer information systems or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.Experience: Two years of experience in accounting or auditing. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.License/Certification: None required.RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of state and federal tax forms. Knowledge of auditing and examining forms and documents. Knowledge of accounting principles and methods. Ability to establish and maintain necessary records of tax returns and other tax forms. Ability to perform accurate mathematical computations. Ability to enter data and information into computerized systems. Ability to apply department rules and regulations to individual situations. Ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instructions. Ability to convince others using factual data and information. Ability to use judgment and tact in dealing with taxpayers, employers, accounting/payroll representatives, and fellow workers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with taxpayers, employers,accounting/payroll representatives and fellow employees. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.Responsibilities:Review taxpayer records for discrepancies, timeliness of filing, refunds, notice of assessments or credit carry-overs ensuring account reconciliation. Issues refunds for overpayment of taxes or Notice of Credit Adjustments for supervisor approval.Review and correct data captured by an Optical Character (OCR) recognition system. Verify fields for accuracy as well as false positive type data fields. Define variables and corrects unrecognized data elements. Monitor data input and output and recommend strategies to correct validation errors. Edit rejected documents and make necessary corrections to allow documents to process accurately through all Revenue systems. Maintain OCR equipment.Review transactions routed to error suspense and make necessary corrections for processing to taxpayer accounts.Contact and respond to taxpayer inquiries in person and by telephone to provide instructions on forms and procedures and request supporting documentation, in accordance with state tax laws, rules, and Department policies. Identify and escalate priority issues. Route calls that require additional expertise to appropriate personnel.Perform batching and cashiering functions to prepare daily revenue deposit, ensuring accuracy and reconciliation to daily tax documents processed.Perform tax year testing to ensure tax documents process through Revenue systems correctly.Access financial institution systems to identify checks returned from the financial institution for insufficient funds and perform research and state treasury adjustments.Review and prepare for approval, taxpayer requests for good standing certificates.Maintain all assigned case files; perform ongoing case management activities, ensuring all statutory deadlines are met.Maintain strict adherence to the departmental laws and regulations pertaining to confidentiality of all tax information obtained from records, files, tax returns, and departmental investigations.Uphold the Department's core values of respect and teamwork.Demonstrate behavior consistent with the Department's Code of Respect in the Workplace.Disclaimer Statement : The supplemental job description lists the essential functions of the position and is not intended to include every job duty and responsibility specific to the position.
