Under the general supervision of the lab manager, the technical supervisor is responsible for the technical and scientific oversight of the laboratory. The technical supervisor is not required to be on-site at all times testing is performed; however, he or she must be available to the laboratory on an as-needed basis to provide supervision. The technical supervisor must be accessible to the laboratory to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation. The Supervisor implements the hospital's mission and objectives by establishing and directing the short-and long-term vision, values, and goals of the department by assisting the department manager in his/her duties and specifically managing the department's quality assurance, education, proficiency testing, competency validation, hazardous waste management, safety, physician testing service, laboratory information system, and other administrative functions toward the attainment of these goals.
* Selecting test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results.
* Participating in the NYS Department of Health approved proficiency testing program
commensurate with the services offered.
* Establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed, establishing the parameter for acceptable levels of analytic performance, and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process.
* Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
* Identifying training needs, and ensuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.
* Evaluating and documenting the performance of individuals responsible for high-complexity testing at least semi-annually during the first year the individual test patient specimens. Thereafter evaluations must be performed at least annually.
* Performs all other duties as required.
Position Requirements:
* This position requires a minimum formal education of Bachelor's Degree and a
minimum of 5 years job - related experience.
* Experience Desired (not required) criteria include: BS or MS in Hematology, Chemistry or Medical Technology. Minimum 5 years Clinical lab experience. Verifiable experience in Blood Bank, Hematology and Chemistry.
* NYS License Clinical Laboratory Technologist
