MISSION

The Chief Financial Officer is a key leadership role that provides strategic leadership to the management of financial operations and to the Executive Director and Board of Director.

The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a compassionate and hands-on leader to fulfill the role of the Chief Financial Officer.

PRIORITIES

  • Provides strategic direction and guidance to the organization through the identification of best practices, understanding the changing environment, seeking opportunities, and recommending solutions to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of the organization.
  • As a member of the leadership team, guides and participates in strategic planning, budget planning and policy and operational decisions with attention to federal and provincial laws and associated regulations.
  • Coordinate all activities within the Finance Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, payroll, special projects accounting, financial planning, budgeting and reporting.
  • Oversees the development, management, and monitoring of departmental budgets.
  • Designs and ensures the financial accounting systems and support schedules provide the necessary information for all donors, grant, tax, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ensure individual funders reporting requirements are completed on a timely basis.
  • Establishes guidelines for budget and forecast preparation. Responsible for the annual budget preparation in consultation with the finance and management teams.
  • Lead the finance committee of the board of directors and participate in the monthly and annual room and board reconciliation and present reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

TALENTS & EXPERTISE

  • Minimum five (5) years experience working in a not-for-profit, government-funded organization in a finance management or executive leadership role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of government and funder agency structures, procedures and reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of financial planning, financial management and accounting/ financial reporting systems and procedures to manage the agency’s fiscal and business affairs.
  • Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills to participate in the development of strategic and operational plans and policy recommendations.
  • Experience to represent the agency with external contacts and to provide advisory services to the CEO, Board of Directors and committees of the Board.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a respectful and aware manner with groups from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Highly developed technical and analytical skills with ability to use expert level judgment for strategic thinking and problem solving.
