Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and well connected Business Development Director with a proven track record in generating new sales in one or more of our practice areas. This role is centered on identifying and closing new business opportunities for our professional services offerings. The successful candidate will focus on prospecting, lead generation, and converting leads into long-term client relationships. You will play a key role in driving new revenue streams, with a sharp focus on building a robust sales pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • New Client Acquisition:
    • Identify and target potential clients in need of our professional services through proactive outreach and research.
    • Develop and maintain a steady pipeline of new sales opportunities through existing relationships in your network, networking with our existing client base, as well as internal teams and other means, referrals, industry events, cold calling, etc.
    • Generate new leads and nurture them through the sales funnel, focusing on establishing relationships with key decision-makers (C-level, VP-level, etc.).
  • Sales Strategy & Execution:
    • Develop and execute a sales plan with clear goals to meet or exceed sales targets for new business.
    • Prepare and deliver compelling sales pitches, presentations, and proposals that clearly articulate our service value proposition.
    • Negotiate contracts and close deals with new clients, ensuring a smooth handover to the service delivery teams.
  • Market Research & Prospecting:
    • Conduct market research to identify emerging opportunities in the professional services sector and target new industries or regions for expansion.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and key players to inform sales tactics and refine targeting strategies.
    • Work with and understand existing practice area leadership and deliver sales based on the strategy of the company and practice areas.
  • Sales Pipeline Management:
    • Maintain a robust CRM system (e.g., Salesforce) to track leads, opportunities, and deal progress, ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.
    • Monitor and report on sales metrics and progress towards monthly, quarterly and annual new sales goals.
  • Networking & Relationship Building:
    • Build a strong network of contacts and partnerships in relevant industries to generate new business leads.
    • Attend conferences, seminars, and networking events to enhance the company’s visibility and create new sales opportunities.
  • Collaboration & Alignment:
    • Work closely with the marketing team to develop lead generation campaigns and identify content or outreach strategies that drive new sales.
    • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., consulting, legal, operations) to ensure client needs are met and projects are aligned with client expectations post-sale.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sales, marketing, or a related field to our professional services offerings.
  • 10+ years of experience in business development or sales, specifically focused on generating new business in one or more of our professional services practice areas (Claims, Disputes & Forensics, Compliance & Regulatory Services and Construction Project Advisory Services)
  • Strong prospecting skills with a proven ability to develop leads from scratch.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with internal teams to tailor services to client needs and ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ability to partner with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for new service offerings or market expansion.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with a track record of closing new business deals.
  • Proven ability and internal drive to exceed new sales quotas and grow new client portfolios.
  • Proficient in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and familiar with lead management processes.
  • Hunter Mentality: A proactive, results-driven salesperson who thrives in targeting new business and is passionate about closing deals.
  • Self-Starter: Highly motivated and able to work independently, with the ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.

Additional Information

The target annual base salary for this role for a candidate who meets the qualifications above is 110K - 150K. We also offer a competitive commission structure to motivate success.

VERTEX offers a solid total compensation package including base salary and discretionary bonus plan. We also offer a robust benefits package including, healthcare (with multiple plan options) and dental; Company-paid Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability. We offer a 401k plan with immediate match and vesting, Flex Spending Account, Employee Assistance Program, and other perks.  We provide a generous paid time off plan for eligible employees including 15 days of vacation, 64 hours of sick time, and 9.5 paid holidays (prorated for eligible part-time employees).  Our “Lifetime of Learning” program also offers tuition reimbursement and additional support for pursuing advanced education, to help employees grow their skills and careers.
