Director of eCommerce

We are seeking a dynamic Director of eCommerce to lead and innovate across our digital ecosystem. This role will drive our eCommerce strategy, manage digital product development, optimize UX, enhance digital merchandising, and coordinate with engineering teams to create a seamless, engaging, and optimized online shopping experience. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, data-driven, and brings a wealth of experience in managing cross-functional teams.


Thuma’s Headquarters is based in the historic Presidio neighborhood of San Francisco. This role can be based in San Francisco or remote.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategy & Leadership:
  • Develop and execute the eCommerce strategy in collaboration with the SVP of Digital to elevate our online brand experience and increase core web KPIs
  • Lead and mentor a team across Digital Product, Digital Merchandising, UX and Engineering, fostering a collaborative and results-driven environment
  • Stay abreast of eCommerce trends, consumer behaviors, vendors and competitive landscape to identify and implement growth opportunities
  • Manage end-to-end delivery of our core eCom initiatives

  • UX & Digital Product Management:
  • Oversee user experience design and product roadmaps to deliver intuitive, engaging, and seamless premium shopping experiences
  • Collaborate with stakeholders such as Brand, Creative & Product to prioritize feature development and ensure alignment with customer needs and business goals
  • Lead Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) by leveraging  competitive research, testing methods such as A/B & multi-variant testing and data-driven insights to refine digital touch points

  • Digital Merchandising:
  • Implement merchandising strategies that elevate the Thuma brand and enhance product discoverability and encourage conversion 
  • Partner with merchandising and marketing teams to curate and optimize our growing product assortments, navigation & product listing pages, landing pages and product detail pages
  • Utilize analytics to monitor product performance and continuously optimize digital merchandising tactics across Navigation, PLP, PDP, On-site Search & Home-and Landing Pages

  • Engineering & Technical Oversight:
  • Oversee the engineering function to ensure that platform performance, security, and scalability meet business requirements
  • Collaborate with internal and external development teams to maintain and improve eCommerce infrastructure and integrations
  • Drive initiatives to implement new technologies and enhance site functionality for a best-in-class digital experience
  • Oversee web operations and work closely with operations & customer experience to ensure great experiences from pre to post-purchase 

  • Data-Driven Optimization:
  • Leverage analytics tools to monitor KPIs, conduct funnel analysis, and identify areas for improvement across the digital customer journey
  • Implement and refine CRO, and personalization strategies to boost traffic, AOV and conversion
  • Prepare and share performance reports to leadership, providing clear insights and recommendations for future initiatives

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, or a related field (MBA preferred)
  • 7+ years of direct experience in eCommerce with a focus on Digital Merchandising, Digital product management, UX, and engineering at an eCom/DTC brand
  • 4+ years of eCom leadership experience overseeing various eCommerce teams such as Digital Product, UX, Digital Merchandising & Engineering, leading the end to end execution of roadmaps (new features & architecture) & execution of new product launches 
  • Proven track record of leading and scaling eCommerce teams in a high-growth environment
  • Strong understanding of digital product management, including experience with agile methodologies
  • Excellent analytical skills with experience in data-driven decision-making
  • Familiarity with eCommerce platforms, CMS, analytics tools, and A/B testing methodologies
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and project management skills


$180,000 - $200,000 a year
Thuma provides an estimate of the compensation for roles that may be hired as required by state regulations. Compensation may vary based on (a) location, as Thuma factors in specific location when benchmarking compensation for most roles; (b) individual candidate skills and qualifications; and (c) individual candidate experience.

Additionally, Thuma leverages current market data to determine compensation, so posted compensation figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
