Elementary Teacher - Music

Overview

The music teacher at Edith Bowen Laboratory School provides classroom instruction aligned with the Utah Core Standards while collaborating with teachers and specialists to create integrated, hands-on, and project-based learning experiences. Responsibilities

  • Classroom music instruction following the Utah Core Standards
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement integrated instruction
  • Measure student progress in music standards in a developmentally appropriate manner
  • Collaboration with colleagues on designing high-quality student learning and meeting students’ needs
  • Development and demonstration of creative educational programs, techniques, and practices
  • Involvement in conducting and validating research, and cooperation with university, state, and local educational agencies
  • Create place-based, project-based, hands-on lesson plans using a constructivist approach
  • Keep in contact with parents/guardians regularly and report any incidents to the Director and individuals involved
  • Become familiar with student individualized education plans and see that they are implemented
  • Modify the music core curriculum for special-needs students based on a variety of instructional techniques and instructional technology
  • Establish and maintain appropriate behavior policies and procedures
  • Prepare materials and classroom for class activities
  • May be assigned to special projects/committees
    • Tier team committee
    • Oversee honor choir and orchestra

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary or music education
  • Experience in teaching music
  • Effective communication skills in dealing with children, parents, college students, and professional colleagues
  • Excellent teaching skills and commitment to serving students
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to program implementation and scheduling
  • Experience with the use of technology in instruction

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Elementary Education and/or Music Education
  • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of constructivist learning theory and application
  • Experience with integrated instruction
  • Experience teaching music in a school setting
