The Branch Manager develops new client and business opportunities for the Branch while maintaining and building upon current relationships. In addition, the individual will provide technical overview and counsel on project organization, budget, work schedules, and legal and client considerations. They are responsible for Branch and project staffing as well as encouraging and motivating subordinates.


Job Responsibilities:
  • Projects a positive image of the Company and colleagues at client negotiations, conferences, technical meetings, and within the office
  • Signs letters, proposals, and reports bearing professional stamp (if applicable) and assumes responsibility in the name of the Company
  • Signs Geotechnology’s standard contract terms. Clients’ contract forms and/or modifications of Geotechnology’s standard contract terms must be approved by a corporate officer
  • Responsible for work assigned to the Branch regarding professional liability and contractual obligations.  All technical work must be conducted so that the standard of care is met
  • Deals directly with clients and prospective clients in business development, proposals, contracts or agreements, and technical matters
  • Provides guidance, training, and instruction to subordinates in regulatory, technical, and administrative aspects of environmental, geotechnical, or construction materials testing consulting
  • Plans Branch strategy in conjunction with Group Managers to meet Company goals
  • Responsible for costs of the Branch and adherence to Branch budgets and utilization goals.  In conjunction with the Program and Project Manager, is responsible for budget control on projects
  • Responsible for the profitability of projects assigned to the Branch
  • Counsels and reviews work of project teams; evaluates Project Managers’ and Staff’s performance
  • Surveys marketplace to identify both new clients and new markets for Company services
  • Plans and supervises Staff Development program
  • Motivates subordinates to accept increasing responsibility and develops viable candidates for Project Management
  • Prepares performance evaluations for direct staff and reviews performance evaluation data for others in the Branch with assigned supervisors prior and subsequent to evaluation meeting


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physical Sciences preferred. Advanced degree is highly desirable.
  • 10+ years of experience in applied Engineering or Physical Sciences for which five years are in project management and supervisory responsibilities
  • Must have thorough knowledge and experience in either geotechnical engineering or environmental services consulting business
  • Active membership in professional and civic organizations
  • Planning, organizing, and delegating ability
  • Experience staffing, directing, and coordinating multi-disciplinary professional staff
  • Experience in the effective use of scheduling and cost control techniques
  • Ability to motivate and train staff and to earn staff respect based on technical and managerial competence and abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
