General Summary
Under direct supervision of professional licensed staff, performs delegated care functions to patients with diverse psychiatric/mental health and substance abuse disorders. The Behavioral Health Associate (BHA) engages in therapeutic activities and interactions with patients while following the established unit and hospital policies to ensure appropriate care delivery and provide a safe and recuperative milieu environment.

Education and Experience
Minimum of an Associates degree in social science or education required, Bachelors degree preferred.
Previous experience in mental health or social services preferred.
CPR certification is required.

Join the dynamic team at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) as a Behavioral Health Associate in the Pediatric Psych department! In this engaging role, you'll be working full-time, enjoying 10-hour shifts from 9 AM to 7:30 PM, along with every other weekend and holiday off. Your primary responsibility will involve providing direct support to children facing psychiatric and mental health challenges or substance abuse disorders. Under the guidance of licensed professionals, you'll help cultivate a nurturing and safe environment through therapeutic interventions. This includes leading psycho-educational groups designed to promote emotional and developmental growth. You’ll also be part of a multidisciplinary team, participating in meetings to discuss patient progress and ensuring coordinated care is provided. You will document patient observations meticulously and play an integral role in family interactions—sharing insights and recommendations to foster a stronger support network for your patients. Collaborating with other healthcare providers and assisting with patient admissions and discharges will also be an important part of your day. We're looking for someone with at least an Associate's degree in social science or education, though a Bachelor’s degree is favored. Previous experience in mental health or social services is a plus! The ideal candidate must possess exceptional communication skills and a genuine empathy for our patients.
