For more information, please visit: Information Technology | University of South Florida (usf.edu)POSITION SUMMARY:The Oracle Database Administrator designs, configures, maintains, secures, upgrades, and enhances the databases underlying our core university-wide Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems including PeopleSoft, Banner, and Degree Works among others.RESPONSIBILITIES:Monitors performance of critical organization-wide databases and tunes all instances and structures of the databases proactively to ensure the overall health of the system. Utilizes custom monitoring tools as well as knowledge of Linux system commands/scripting to administer Oracle databases and systems. Enhances capacity and scalability according to IT and business needs, using industry-leading methods in combination with USF's existing platform choices. Provides analysis, research, problem diagnosis, and resolution for database related issues and provides analysis of programs developed by others for performance considerations.Ensures Oracle database software stays up-to-date through regular upgrades and patching activities. Creates databases for development, testing and production. Conducts effective backup and recovery activities. Participates in database-related migrations across systems or platforms including to cloud-based resources such as Microsoft Azure. Collaborates regularly with other teams and roles to design solutions that are optimal from a whole-system and end-to-end perspective.Participates in an on-call rotation of the Oracle DBA team members, to ensure availability and performance of business-critical databases and systems. Participates in responding to and addressing key Production Support tickets/issues reported by end-users, business areas, IT staff, and others. Applies data or structure changes to production databases upon request.Establishes and maintains database access control to ensure safety and security of the databases. Audits and monitors attempted transactions, tracks transaction logs to prevent or resolve errors and disruptions.Performs other duties as assigned.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:MINIMUM:Bachelors degree in Computer Science, MIS or other field involving software and analytical training, and four years of IT related work experience, OR a Bachelor's degree with no specific required field and five years of IT related work experience, OR a Master's degree and three years of IT related work experience, OR a combination of eight years of IT related work experience and validated training.
