Engineering Manager, Teleport

Teleport,  is a new product from Varjo, the world-leader of enterprise virtual and mixed reality solutions, allowing anybody with an iPhone to 3d scan and share their spaces. We use machine learning to create a 3d environment, all running in a fully automated cloud service. 

We are looking for a Product-Minded Engineering Manager with strong technical expertise, a passion for solving customer problems, and the ability to lead and inspire others. In this role, you will oversee the development of Teleport's web, mobile, and PC applications, as well as the backend infrastructure that powers them. 

You will be the owner of all customer-facing systems, while leading a team of domain experts. We expect you to contribute to the Teleport web app and the AWS infrastructure, so proficiency in Python and AWS is essential. 

You’ll lead a team of 3 domain experts, with the opportunity to grow the team as the product scales. Collaboration is at the heart of this role—you’ll work closely with our product manager and designer to translate ideas into exceptional products.

This role is fully remote or can be based in our offices in Helsinki or Munich—you decide what works best for you. If you choose to work remotely, it must be from within Germany or Finland.

What you’ll be doing

  • Be a hands-on technical leader, who understands the on-the-ground reality of delivering software on a weekly cadence and can support the team in doing their best work by being involved at the right level of abstraction
  • Contribute to the Teleport web application, focusing particularly on the backend architecture and AWS infrastructure.
  • Oversee the development of Teleport's web, mobile, and PC applications while collaborating closely with the Product Manager and Head of Engineering to define the long-term roadmap
  • Be the line manager for a growing team of engineers. Currently the team is 3, planning to grow to 6.
  • Hire great candidates for the team, who fit within a product-driven organisation

 

Our expectations

  • 5+ years of experience with hands-on software engineering, within product-driven organisations and with a customer-first approach
  • 2+ years of experience in a managerial role managing small, agile teams
  • Proficiency in Python, HTML/CSS/Javascript, Postgres, Docker, AWS
  • A solid understanding of iOS, Android and Unity principles
  • Proficiency with operating a service, including release processes, monitoring, security
  • Proven ability to ship impactful software in a startup environment
