Department Summary
The College of Arts and Sciences offers the core liberal arts and sciences curriculum that serves the entire UO undergraduate population. As of 2019, the majority of undergraduates (more than 60 percent, or almost 11,000 students at any given time) go on to pursue a degree in one of the college’s 40+ undergraduate degree programs. CAS also serves the majority of UO’s graduate students, with numerous master’s programs and 30+ doctoral programs that produce approximately 75 percent of the university’s PhDs. CAS is also home to approximately 750 faculty, 1,000+ graduate employees, and 200 administrative employees.
Position Summary
The Web Communications Technician provides technology and content support to CAS units, primarily around their public-facing departmental websites, which have the potential to reach thousands of current and prospective students, as well as alumni and donors. The person in this position will use Drupal and WordPress to maintain a design, navigation, and back-end framework common to the 40+ units, and to smoothly integrate CAS units’ sites with UO and CAS branding. The position will also maintain user groups and permissions; gather requirements and specifications from the CAS Director of Communications and unit personnel; engage content owners and website users in feedback processes to improve the department websites; gather requirements for College-wide administrative tools and collaborate with Application Services to develop and maintain administrative tools; and troubleshoot and repair website issues.
This position requires the incumbent to manage their own projects, priorities, and workload with a high degree of independence to maintain efficiency as needs evolve. The position is supervised by the CAS Director of Communications and interacts frequently as a liaison to UO Information Services for unit managers, heads, faculty, and the CAS Communications team.
Minimum Requirements
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills of technology and information systems generally obtained through an AA degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified course work in applicable fields of study and at least one year of related work experience.
