Director of Human Rights and Labor Relations - FIFA World Cup 26™

Position Overview:

FIFA is committed to respecting and promoting human rights across all aspects of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in accordance with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and FIFA’s Human Rights Policy. The Director of Human Rights and Labor Relations will be responsible for developing, implementing, overseeing and reporting on On Location’s human rights strategy for the Official Hospitality Program. They will work with applicable labor unions and other human rights groups and will ensure that human rights risks are identified, mitigated, and addressed in collaboration with host cities, staff, vendors and service providers, local authorities, stakeholders, and affected groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Implementation

  • Lead the execution of human rights due diligence for the FIFA World Cup 2026, ensuring alignment with FIFA’s policies and international human rights standards.

  • Develop and implement mechanisms to monitor, prevent, and respond to human rights risks across all aspects of tournament operations, including labor rights, non-discrimination, and child protection within the hospitality program.

  • Coordinate with FIFA’s Sustainability & Human Rights leads to integrate human rights considerations into all hospitality-related activities.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Work closely with host country and city governments, organizing committees, local human rights bodies, and civil society organizations, including labor unions to foster dialogue and cooperation.

  • Ensure meaningful engagement with affected groups, including workers, communities, marginalized groups, and human rights defenders.

  • Collaborate with FIFA’s Commercial and Procurement teams to implement human rights due diligence processes in supplier and partner selection and agreements.

Labor Rights & Worker Protections

  • Oversee the implementation of fair labor practices for all workers involved in hospitality-related projects, including those in construction, production, and event services.

  • Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure safe working conditions, fair wages, and grievance mechanisms for workers.

  • Monitor compliance with FIFA’s Sustainable Sourcing Code and labor rights commitments.

Anti-Discrimination, Diversity & Inclusion

  • Develop and implement initiatives to promote non-discrimination, gender equality, and accessibility in all aspects of the tournament.

  • Oversee policies that protect participants, fans, and workers from discrimination, harassment, and abuse.

  • Ensure effective reporting and response mechanisms for human rights violations, including racism, xenophobia, and other forms of discrimination.

Security, Fan & Community Rights

  • Work with security agencies to ensure that security operations respect human rights.

  • Implement safeguarding policies to protect children, vulnerable groups, and human rights defenders during tournament operations around the hospitality spaces and venues.

  • Support initiatives to promote community engagement and legacy projects that positively impact host communities.

Monitoring, Reporting & Remedy

  • Establish and oversee grievance mechanisms to address human rights concerns related to the hospitality program.

  • Lead the development of human rights impact assessments and regular progress reports.

  • Ensure transparency in human rights-related reporting and support FIFA’s commitment to accountability in human rights practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human rights, international relations, public policy, or a related field.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in human rights policy implementation, corporate social responsibility, or labor relations in a global organization.

  • Proven expertise in human rights due diligence, labor rights, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong knowledge of international human rights frameworks (UNGPs, ILO standards, OECD Guidelines, etc.).

  • Experience working with governments, NGOs, trade unions, and corporate partners on human rights initiatives.

  • Familiarity with major sporting events and the human rights challenges associated with them is preferred.

  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and crisis management skills.

  • Fluency in English required; Spanish and/or French preferred.

Hiring pay rates are based on a number of factors, including location and may vary depending on job-related qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience. The company strives to provide locally competitive rewards packages, which include base rate along with, as applicable, short- and long-term incentives, growth and developmental opportunities, and robust benefits, such as health care, retirement, vacation and other paid time off, and additional offerings.

$131,250 annually
