Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Mid-Level Natural Resource and Environmental Permitting Scientist to work in our environmental permitting and planning practice in Upstate, New York. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong foundation in natural sciences and environmental permitting. The successful candidate will support field investigations and surveys, technical report preparation, and environmental permitting for projects in aquatic and terrestrial environments.

Responsibilities for this position could include:

Wetland delineations, natural resources investigations, soil, sediment and water sampling as well as permitting for a variety of clients.

This position can either be an office-based position out Albany or Buffalo or a remote position for a candidate located in Upstate, New York

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in natural resources sciences (e.g., biology, etc.), natural resource management, or environmental science or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid Driver’s License and as a condition of employment must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.
  • Experience in permitting, wetland delineation or water sampling.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters' Degree in natural resources sciences (e.g., biology, etc.), natural resource management, or environmental science or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in natural resource investigations (including wetland delineations); soil, sediment and water sampling
  • Strong knowledge of NEPA, SEQRA, and demonstrated experience with federal and New York State permitting.
  • Experience with the environmental field investigations and environmental permitting associated with linear transmission projects.
  • Familiarity with construction equipment and associated on site environmental inspections
  • Knowledge of data analysis techniques and software used for environmental data interpretation (e.g., GIS, data management platforms).
  • HAZWOPER (40-hour) certification or similar health and safety training.
  • NYSDEC and USACE Permitting skills. power sector permitting a plus.
