The Worldwide (WW) Medical Director, pan-Rheumatology is a core member of the Rheumatology WW Medical team. This individual will lead the medical affairs activities for afimetoran, a TLR 7/8 antagonist currently under investigation in lupus, and represent WW Medical on the afimetoran development program. In addition, this individual will play a key role in the development and execution of Rheumatology portfolio medical strategies and international expert engagement. This individual will report to the Senior Director, WW Medical Rheumatology Lead.
Key Responsibilities:
Therapeutic Area: Rheumatology, eg Lupus, Psoriatic Disease, Sjogren’s Disease
Develop and lead the Afimetoran medical strategy and represent WWM within the Global Program Team
Support R&D in designing the phase 3 program by providing strategic input through external experts
Ensure afimetoran medical strategy alignment within the broader lupus strategy
Maintain strategic alignment within the Rheum, CAR-T IMID and EDAP teams to approach our scientific advocacy strategy as one BMS
Lead the WWM Matrix Team and development of the WW medical plan, data generation/posthoc,… and collaborate on delivering a robust medical communication plan
Collaborate with the WW Medical team to develop and execute the pan-Rheumatology medical and data generation strategy
Identify and seek input from external experts that informs strategic decisions, landscape awareness, study designs, and understanding of novel biology
Identify, develop/execute the external unbranded scientific communications strategy based on landscape assessment, eg symposia, digital education, pathway science…
Support and prioritize broader Sotyktu activities impacting the overall rheumatology portfolio
Qualifications & Experience:
Advanced, scientific or medical degree; eg PhD, MD, DO, PharmD
Minimum 7-10+ years experience in the pharma/biopharma industry
Lupus, Sjogren’s Disease, evidence generation, launch experience
Advanced understanding of the scientific principles underpinning data analysis and medical communications
Ability to distill complex scientific questions down to simple, easy to understand analyses, evidence, and communications
Strong interpersonal communication skills commensurate with the need to work closely with both external physicians/scientists and in-house teams while maintaining scientific credibility
Strong listening, problem solving, and prioritization skills Excellent planning and organization skills including the ability to work under pressure, and to maintain scientific excellence within timelines
Ability to navigate complex topics in a matrix environment with grace and confidence Strong leadership experience within multi-functional project teams and managing external agencies
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including strong oral presentation skills
Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity; representing the company’s high ethics, moral behavior, and professionalism standards Office-based position with global travel expected up to 25%.
