Senior Product & Delivery Manager

About Mighty Acorn

At Mighty Acorn, we make it easier for governments to deliver world-class digital services. From renewing a fishing license to applying for unemployment benefits, we build digital services that enhance public trust and satisfaction.

Our vision is a world where “good enough for government work” returns to its pedestal: fast, reliable, and frustration-free. We achieve this by empowering people, increasing transparency, breaking down silos, and moving together toward a shared goal.

Specializing in modern software development, DevSecOps, and scalable infrastructure, we focus on leveraging automation to manage complexity, accelerate transformation, shorten feedback loops, and reduce risk to build a world where government programs run reliably, smoothly, and efficiently.

While our team averages 10+ years of experience in the industry, we are a relatively new (formed in 2023) professional services company. Our government clients engage us to improve their digital products and services in a way that ensures better outcomes for their users and stakeholders. That means our clients hire us for our expertise, which we bill our time for.

Senior Product & Delivery Managers at Mighty Acorn

This Position Is Contingent, Pending Contract Award.

At Mighty Acorn, our work sits at the intersection of technology and public service. We partner with government agencies to design, launch, and modernize digital services that directly impact millions of people. Working directly with government partners, Product & Delivery Managers play a critical role in navigating this intersection, serving as cross-functional strategic leaders on agile software development teams. Combining strong business acumen, interpersonal and organizational skills, and an action-oriented mindset, they naturally find themselves in positions of influence in large, complex organizations, which enables them to navigate ambiguity and deliver high-impact outcomes.

Working alongside researchers, designers, engineers, analysts, and testers, Product & Delivery Managers play a pivotal role in fostering collaboration and driving results across multidisciplinary teams. They help teams navigate the unique challenges of civic technology, whether modernizing legacy systems and processes, balancing regulatory constraints and ambitions, or prioritizing equity and accessibility in user experiences, to name a few.

Product & Delivery Managers have a track record of solving challenging problems in interesting ways, driven by their curiosity, willingness to try new things, and courage to think outside the box. Their consultative and adaptable approach helps teams and stakeholders translate high-level goals into actionable work, staying flexible yet focused as new information or requirements emerge.

While in many circumstances combining product and delivery – the strategic with the tactical role – goes against “the rules,” we’ve found that by combining product and delivery responsibilities into a single role creates alignment between strategic vision and hands-on operational execution. The person in this role must know when to wear their "product hat" to prioritize user needs and strategic goals, and when to wear the "delivery hat" to focus on tactical execution, timelines, and team coordination, to meet the needs of the engagement. Equally important is the ability to balance the inherent tension between these roles, ensuring that neither strategic vision nor operational delivery is compromised in pursuit of the best outcomes.

This is a unique opportunity to join a growing consultancy as one of the first Product & Delivery Managers. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and scaling the product and delivery management practice, contributing to meaningful work that makes a difference.

On a day to day basis, you will be responsible for:

Strategic leadership

  • Defining a vision and outcomes: Collaborate with the team and government stakeholders to establish a clear vision, roadmap, user-centered outcomes, and measures of success.

  • Leading in ambiguity: Navigate complex, ambiguous, and highly regulated environments by thinking holistically, guiding the team toward delivering on strategic goals, and actively participating in and reviewing their work throughout the process.

  • Collaborating and influencing: Build consensus and maintain transparent communication with internal teams and external stakeholders at all organizational levels, using influence to align efforts without direct authority.

  • Delivering results: Proactively address challenges and drive decisions to maintain momentum, ensuring progress is made even in uncertain or rapidly evolving situations.

  • Ownership: Speak to the value the team delivers, ensuring all work aligns with strategic priorities and meets or exceeds stakeholder and user expectations.

Delivery

  • Facilitation and flow: Facilitate team discussions and ceremonies (e.g., standups, retrospectives, planning, and refinement) to create and maintain flow, removing impediments as they arise.

  • Scope and prioritization: Define direction and priorities, breaking down high-level initiatives into actionable features, user stories, and metrics to align with project goals.

  • Outcome-focused delivery: Prioritize and deliver meaningful improvements for clients and end users iteratively, working within project constraints.

  • Resource and task management: Manage timelines, organize tasks, and request resources to set the team up for success with clear priorities and context.

  • Clear, action-oriented communication: Provide stakeholders with regular updates on progress, blockers, and risks, maintaining transparency and trust.

  • Clarity and alignment: Create and maintain product requirements, backlogs, and key artifacts to memorialize decisions and align the team on objectives.

  • Continuous Improvement: Advocate for and uphold best practices to foster a culture of learning and growth.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of experience running and/or shipping web applications in a similar capacity to above, specifically in highly regulated or complex industries.

  • Delivering results in ambiguous environments – as a new company we don’t have a lot documented yet.

  • An ability to embrace change and ask insightful questions, particularly about client needs and capabilities.

  • Bachelor's degree

It’d be nice if you also have

  • Experience working in professional services or government digital services.

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.

  • Experience building products and services for all users, regardless of ability, backed by knowledge of accessibility standards (Section 508 Refresh/WCAG 2.0 A and AA).

  • Familiarity with popular web development technologies, third-party applications, and platforms.

  • Experience with ticketing/issue management systems such as Github and Atlassian Jira/Confluence, or similar.

  • Familiarity with popular productivity tools, such as Google Workspace, Slack, and Notion.

Other requirements:

  • An ability to work efficiently, sometimes under tight deadlines.

  • A preference for transparency and an ability to be direct and transparent in your own communication.

  • An ability to adapt quickly and cope with temporarily ambiguous situations as requirements change.

  • This role requires work be performed from within the contiguous United States.

  • Candidates must either hold active US citizenship or a green card, and should possess work authorization that does not require any present or future visa sponsorship by Mighty Acorn Digital.

  • Candidates selected for the role must pass a criminal background check prior to their start date.

  • Candidates must have a fast (>100Mbps) and reliable internet connection and have a dedicated workspace with background noise at an appropriate level for audio calls.

  • Candidates must possess at least a Bachelor's degree.

If you don’t meet every requirement but believe you’d be great in this role, we’d love to hear from you! We’re committed to building diverse teams, and research shows that women and underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification.
